Fever Pitch for music fans.,
By
This review is from: Goodnight Jim Bob: On the Road with "Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine" (Paperback)
In the same way that you didn't need to be an Arsenal fan to enjoy Fever Pitch you certainly didn't need to be a Carter fan to enjoy Jim Bob's hilarious book. If you have ever wanted to know what being in a band is really like then this is for you. It has an abundance of humour, splatterings of pathos and some touching moments too. As a fan of Jim Bob I was really happy to see this book get great reviews in titles such as Mojo, Drowned In Sound, Word and even OK magazine. It is the least Jim Bob deserves. I would now like to see him write a novel as he is obviously a very talented writer.

If you are of a certain age, and once many years ago, Carter USM were your T-Shirt band of choice - then this book will flash you back to a magical time. Jim Bob gives a real sense of being in the band at telling of their rapid rise to - and too brief stay at - the top, and the drawn out slide back down. He writes with humour and touching self awareness. The book isn't the best edited, and assumes you know the band and their material, it's probably not that accessible to people who wouldn't know their Carter from their Poppies. But - if you are a fan then this deserves to be a cult book, just as Carter were a cult band.

Brings back memories of when I lived at Streatham. Doesn't matter if you're not a Carter fan, it's still an excellent book. It's very funny and a great insight into the music scene, and how hard these guys really worked.
