Having decided to stop being ripped off by Sky I was faced with the decision of which freesat + HD box to buy. I decided that the best value for money was the Goodmans GD11FSRHD50. WRONG! I was really disappointed. This box was really very slow to respond to the handset, the handset difficult to use (small buttons, small typeface, black figures on grey background in some cases). The whole thing really made Freesat look like a 'mickey mouse' system. I spoke to a friend who had had Freesat for some time and he told me it was not the system that was poor - it must be the box. So I repacked the Goodmans GD11FSRHD50, sent it back and ordered the Humax Foxsat HDR+ (which, ironically had been reduced in price to the same as the Goodmans). What a difference! more features, quicker, better build quality and easier to use.
Freesat is not as 'clever' as sky but it is good as long as you buy the right equipment

We bought this after saying goodbye to sky's unaffordable prices. Had problems from the first day we plugged it in. The remote responds after about 1 minute of pressing the button, if you turn the box off the only way to get it back on is to unplug it, it randomly decides not to record some things, the picture jumps to a black screen every now and then and the recordings that do record can get stuck and skip, very disappointed, will be returning asap!

I was very pleased with this product, it was also easy to install and it works really well I would recommend this Goodmans Freesat HD Digital Box.

The Goodmans GD11FSRHD50 TV recorder arrived in good time and was very easy to set up, with good, clear instructions. The picture quality was fine, it was easy to find your way around the controls and the recorder did everything you would expect it to do. However, it had a problem - the only way that I could turn on the box was to unplug it at the mains first! It also turned itself on during the night (as indicated by the light going from red to green), but still did not work unless I first unplugged it and started again. Goodmans support staff suggested that the signal from the satellite dish was the problem (one of the tuners showed a 100% strength, which apparently is too high), so I was told to install a signal attenuator. This made no difference, so in the end after further discussions with Goodmans, I returned the faulty item to Amazon, who promptly refunded me in full without any quibbles - full marks to Amazon.

This seemed to be a great replacement for my Humax box which gave up after quite a few years of excellent service. Packed with features, and with good(ish) overall reviews, it seemed a cost effective answer. True, it does have a great range of features and it is very easy to set up BUT it is woefully slow in operation - Some other reviews did hint at it being 'a bit slow'.
For example, when using the remote to change channel, you can't just put in the 3 numbers required (example 123), you have to put in one digit, then wait a few seconds before entering the second, and then wait again to enter the third. If you don't time it right, you'll end up with the wrong channel.
The unit cannot be switched off - except by unplugging - and wake up from standby often takes up to 5 minutes to achieve using the remote control (with the new batteries supplied). In fact, it's quicker to disconnect it from the mains and reboot it each time!
I have it connected to the Ethernet and it frequently drops the connection, then picks it up again - it's just not consistent. Recording is fine - but you need a 2 LNB Sat receiver to fully use the facilities available.
Despite advertisibg that it can get ITV Player, I've yet managed to achieve this. BBC IPlayer is ok - once it eventually loads, but ITV Player just won't load - even though I've applied their software patch I downloaded from the internet.
Overall, when compared with the Humax I had for years, I regret this purchase and really wish that I had decided to return it as 'unsuitable' before this option expired. I believed, in vain, that it must be me and not the machine. How wrong I was!
Perhaps it's faulty? - perhaps Goodman's will tell me!
My advice? Think very long and hard about buying one of these!
