Freeview AND DAB - a winning combination, 11 Mar 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Goodmans GBD5 2 in 1 FREEVIEW Receiver With DAB Radio - Silver (Electronics)
Purchased this as I was looking for a new freeview box and as I also listen to the radio quite a bit I thought I'd give it a try. And pleased I did. Setup is dead easy, simply plug it in and switch it on. The box will then find all the TV stations. Pressing the menu button will present you with four graphical icons TV / RADIO / TIMES / SETUP - select one and you'll get a couple more options. Its all very easy to use and well worth looking at. It has a two-line LCD panel on the front of the unit - this displays TV channel name or DAB radio channel info such as song title and additional info about the current broadcast (eg. contact information). When playing DAB through your TV, after a short while a screensaver will kick in - basically, its the current channel name slowly moving around a black background. Round the back you'll find twin SCART sockets and audio RCA left/right OUT sockets. The colours are a bit darker than my old box - but that's not a real problem. Only other downsides are that the interactive text is a bit slow to scroll through and there is only now/next programme info (like nearly all Freeview boxes). A great piece of convergence.

An Ideal Solution, 9 July 2005
This review is from: Goodmans GBD5 2 in 1 FREEVIEW Receiver With DAB Radio - Silver (Electronics)
My dilemma was that though I wanted freeview I was in a no reception postcode. Could I afford to take the risk of forking out a lot of money for nothing? Then I saw this on amazon and the risk disappeared. I also wanted dab radio and as this is no dearer than most dab radios I couldn't lose. As it turned out I receive good reception for both freeview and dab in a ground floor flat on a boosted indoor aerial! Much more than I could hope for. It's a great piece of equipment. Please amazon advertise it more openly for people who share my dilemma.

An excellent combination, 7 July 2005
This review is from: Goodmans GBD5 2 in 1 FREEVIEW Receiver With DAB Radio - Silver (Electronics)
I bought this unit basically for three reasons: 1. fed up with my old Nokia On-Digital box crashing all the time 2. I was considering buying a DAB tuner for my hifi 3. this has to be the most cost effective way of achieving both the above. And I have to say I'm delighted with the purchase. Setting up is a breeze, you really do just plug it in and switch it on, it does all the rest. The remote is well functioned and laid out, picture quality is very good (compared to the old Nokia box anyway). The phonos on the back plug straight into the hifi aux so you have instant DAB reception which is great. Dual scarts make TV and VCR linkup simple. When you consider what a DAB tuner or stand-alone radio costs (£100 plus), to get Freeview and DAB in a single little box for £70 is incredible. The Amazon price is also the best, a Kelkoo search lists the next nearest stockist price for the same unit as £90+p&p, and although the Amazon page says 1 to 2 weeks delivery, this arrived in 4 days (even using the free delivery option). A great buy.
