5.0 out of 5 stars Hooray!, 20 Feb 2007

More Goodies! The complete ITV series! The classic 'Bigfoot' episode! Yay!!

Okay, of the final series it has to be said that 'Bigfoot' is probably the best episode. It's a skit of the equally ancient 80's programme 'Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World' in which Graeme plays Arthur who merrily debunks every possible supernatural phenomenon going (just like the original series, really!) with utterly crackpot explanations (The Loch Ness Monster is actually an elephant balancing a french baguette on it's trunk with a tortoise balancing on that - or some such loony fob off) whilst UFO's land behind him to refuel at Stonehenge. And when Tim and Bill are convinced that Arthur C. Clarke is equally as mythical they go on a quest to find him, leading to Tim transforming into Bigfoot...yes, it IS as stupid and as whacked out as it sounds which is why it has stayed in my head for so long.

The Goodies swansong is filled with some great moments - perhaps not their greatest moments - but enough to satisfy until the complete BBC series is finally released. Someday. Maybe??

3.0 out of 5 stars Much maligned, but not entirely unfairly..., 7 April 2007
By Alasdair Swanson "arcoddath" (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
When the Goodies switched channels to ITV for what was to be their last series, the series seemed to suffer. In reality, of course, there was a mixture of gems and duds, as with any series as long-running as theirs. Unfortunately, the first series they made was badly scheduled and, relative to their BBC best, on the weak side. As plus points there were "Change of Life" and "Robot" but the remaining shows were weaker and fared badly in the ratings.

As the "end of the Goodies" this is a somewhat lacklustre showing. It's *not* as bad as popular memory makes it but it's not the best work they produced either. Nice to have it out at last and a reasonable package of extras, but I'm waiting for more BBC shows with baited breath.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gum...gum..., 10 Mar 2007
These are currently being shown on a Sky satellite channel in Europe, so you could feasibly watch 'em all before buying the set. You wouldn't regret it if you did buy them, because although their stint at London Weekend Television wasn't as fruitful as their time at the BBC, the Goodies still produced some excellent and inventive stuff. In 1981 LWT spent a lot of money on the series, and you can certainly see where it all went. Viewers from Generation X (born after 1980) may be disappointed, but if you're over 30 and recall well British TV shows of the 70s and early '80s, this will be a delight to behold.
