Apparently this song spent two months on top of the US singles charts... must have been a pretty quiet two months for music releases then. Ciara arrives with a megaton of hype behind her as 'the next big thing' and the queen of Crunk n' B. In that regard, you would expect her first single to be catchy as hell and immediately standout (think 50's 'In Da Club'), but what we get instead comes across as a slightly lacklustre impersonation of Kelis, with nigh-on empty production from the King of Crunk Lil' Jon. Basically it's boring.
As stunning as she is to look at, Ciara seems to struggle when it comes to sustaining a note and most of the vocals come across like an amplified whisper. SImilarly, the music is also lacking, bearing Lil' Jon's trademark rehashed clap-snare beat with some electronic whistling noises and occasional light synths - Timbaland it ain't. It'll be interesting to see if it does well over here, compared to a truly great R n' B track like Ashanti's 'Only U'. But I for one find this track dull.
