Okay fine, not their best, but still...., 9 Aug 2000
They could clearly have culled a few clunkers off this one, but there are still a few shiny gems. How can you not get all weepy listening to "Ghost"? And doesn't "Wearchest" make you want to lift up your pint and swear defiantly at the world? Don't you get all a-goosepimply at the end of "Let's Go"? I do, and so should you.

Disappointing., 1 Oct 2003

I never understood the reviews of this album. It's rare to see someone give a negative review of it, yet from first listen, five years ago, until today, I still don't enjoy the album much. Not to say it doesn't have its moments. No More Talk, The View From Here, Ghost, Inside... all great. Northern Lights and Let's Go are both attempts at slow, pianoey-type ballads, and aren't too bad (but could do with a little more inspiration, perhaps). The rest, however, is quite dirgy and samey slightly dub reggae-influenced stuff. Mainly slow, quite percussive and not very electronic. Wilkie's guitars, if at all present, consist of bland strumming and little else. When You Say Goodbye opens with a truly beautiful guitar-led melody, almost heartbreaking, which then turns into a rather bland, muddy sounding song once more. Disgraceful was poppy, and good fun at that. Make It Better had a bit of attitude, and was more serious, but at the same time also fun, and production-wise was their most mature and interesting. Goodbye, as I see it, contains very little quality production and very little good songwriting.

YES, DEPRESSING BUT WORTH EVERY LISTEN!!!, 8 Feb 2002

When I first listened to this cd, which has 15 tracks (!!!) it was a mess. The songs are all very distinctive and not all the same and short, so it was a mess because it was a lot to take. But already after the 2nd listen I saw a light at the end of the tunnel and shortly afterwards I found this cd to be magnificent and even better than Disgraceful. Particularly love "The View From Here" (love it!!) which made an appearance already on the Elevator Song EP in disguise, No More Talk, but really, they are too many, all great songs. GET THIS!
