Product Description

Unable to live with depression? Medical treatment brings no solution? Self-help books written by doctors do not help? That is precisely where the author stood after years of trying to get rid of depression in the usual ways. So she took matters into her own hands, fought for her life and won it back. This is how she did it and how you can do it too.

The first of Goodbye Depression's two parts is an intimate account of the author's war with depression. With dry humor to offset the pain, it tells how her full and happy life collapsed into a deep depression. Then it tells how she fought her way back to a life as good as it had been before.

The winning strategy, presented in the second part, is based on the premise that there are no miracle solutions and nobody is going to solve depression for you, so you must take control and do it yourself. Goodbye Depression is based on experience and common sense, not on theories. It tells you in a direct and practical manner what to do and how to do it, speaking at eye level, from one victim of depression to another, not from the height of a professional pedestal.

This is a book written by a woman who has been there, has done it and has won, for people who want to win and are going to win.

Dalia Eliav is a mathematician and a teacher, a former competition swimmer and tennis champion and still a very active athlete. Her motivation for writing the book is the firm belief that what she has learned can surely help other people who suffer from depression and the desire to share it with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very very useful book on depression, 2 Aug 2005
This review is from: Goodbye Depression:Take Control of Your Life and Get Rid of Depression A Practical Guide Based on Personal Experience (Paperback)
this book on how to fight depression has been extremely helpful to me and I would recommend it to anybody struggling with depression. I have read many self help books (and I mean many) and only a few I read again and again because most books promise too much in too short a time and when you do not get better after following the instructions given you get even more miserable. In this very well written book Dalia Eliav describes soberly and without self pity her struggle to finally be diagnosed and then her daily fight not to sink in a dark hole. Without trying to be an expert she also tries to give some answers as to why she who up to her depression has led a completely normal life is struk by depression and gives you some very helpful tools of how to fight it (wich have worked for her) without promising that just these tools will work for you, which is more honest as you do not exprect too much right from the beginning. Very recommendable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up! Dalia is great, 14 Oct 2003
By Cynthia Hebert - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Goodbye Depression:Take Control of Your Life and Get Rid of Depression A Practical Guide Based on Personal Experience (Hardcover)
For many years I suffered from depression, I had medical treatment but it did not solve my problems. I read many books written by doctors, it seems they are far away from the suffering person.

Goodbye Depression is written by dalia Eliav who suffered from depression for many years and fought her way out. I felt identified with Dalia while reading the book. Dalia tells her story in very simple and clear words. It was very easy for me to follow the story of the "FALL" and then the way "UP".

Reading the book gave me hope that I can beat depression in the same way Dalia describes her winning strategy.

Reading the book gave me the good feeling of talking to a friend and learning from her experiences how to solve my own problems.

This book is loaded with practical wisdom and common sense, in a neat, very readable and nicely illustrated package. I liked the understated, very intimate and even humorous way the author describes her own experience of depression. Her guidance for fighting depression is clear, practical and very focused. To me, what she says simply makes sense.
