Book Description

3 May 1990

This is a very interesting book. Evelyn is deafened, which means she lost her hearing after learning to speak, and after she learnt the basics of music. This book is a really good eye opener for those not acquainted with the deaf world, the barriers that the newly deafened person has to face, both from people around them and the general public at large. Evelyn had many battles to face and credit to her, she did not give up. To me, this is an inspirational read, because when no one believes in you, it is all too easy to give up, but Evelyn knew what she was capable of, and went for it. Hopefully this will encourage other deafened people to believe in themselves and not get discouraged. I found this book a really interesting read.

We all admire the achievements of the lady, but think girl from humble beginnings > scholarship at music school > international fame, plus a little chartable musing thrown in and you basically have the entire book. Only for very bored.
