Book Description

27 Nov 2009
This book contains over ninety recipes, some of which can be cooked in advance to have as a helper in your freezer. To make it easier to cook food from readily available, seasonal produce, there are four weeks of summer recipes and four weeks of winter recipes. All recipes are designed for the busy person who wants to eat well, weekday recipes are short and easy to prepare with lots of helpful tips and ideas to vary the dishes for another time. Each week is balanced between meat, fish and vegetarian recipes which are also suitable for when you have friends around without spending too much time in the kitchen. There are recipes on how to create a second meal during the week from leftovers in the fridge without feeling you are using leftovers. Each week has a simple soup and a dessert if you feel like a treat. All the recipes are typical of the food served at the acclaimed Good Things Cafe and Cookery School in West Cork and what Carmel has been feeding her three children over the years. This is food which is fresh and light, using no flour and just a little dairy, with a hint of spice here and there to brighten up our good basic ingredients. Some of the dishes use those forgotten cuts of meat that are easier on the pocket but no less flavoursome. The book contains colour photographs by John Carey - with some of the recipes having step by step photos.

Review

I'm delighted to hear that Carmel's book is about to hit the shelves. This is the book I've been waiting for. --Darina Allen, Ballymaloe House

As soon as you enter the restaurant you immediately realise there is something special going on. --Ross Lewis, Chapter One

The purity of her food is underwritten by a search for trueness and authenticity. No question that this is the best cookery book of the year. Polemical, passionate, and beautifully photographed by John Carey, and the food eats beautifully. --John McKenna, The Bridgestone Guides

5.0 out of 5 stars Eat Good Things Every day 6 Nov 2009
Format:Hardcover
This cookery book deserves to be a best seller. Its refreshing and unique approach combining shopping lists and meal planning with a selection of great recipes puts it in a class of its own. As an avid cookery book collector this is one of the best if not arguably the best cookery book on my shelf! It is soon to become the most used.!
I cannot wait to start working my way through the eight weeks of planned meals detailed in the book. I love the emphasis on no more waste and Carmel Somers approach to using all of the food in the fridge. I have decided that all my female relatives are going to get a copy of this for Xmas ! If you have not yet bought this book my advice is get a copy you will not regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eat good things everyday 3 Jan 2010
Format:Hardcover
This is a fabulous book. I bought two copies for friends & I had one given to me for Xmas . I actually know Carmel Somers, the author, and it is as though she is in the room talking to you or she is just looking over your shoulder offering a bit of advice. Its such a well thought out book in every way & would suit both those starting to cook & those who have quite a bit of experience but who, perhaps ,are not terribly organised (like myself! ) Also ,there is something in the book for everyone , meat, fish & vegetarian recipes & all the basics , with some puds. too. The photography is superb ,making the food look so good . I can't wait for the next one !

5.0 out of 5 stars So good I bought another one for my daughter 3 May 2010
By FaeFife
Format:Hardcover
I'm one of these people who used to go in to the supermarket, wander around and buy in a random fashion. When I got back home I'd think - now what can I make with all this stuff! After buying Eat Good Things Everyday I'm much more focused and organised in my food shopping and also more conscious of not wasting food, using the sad vegetables at the bottom of the fridge - and the black bananas in the fruit bowl for the delicious chocolate and banana loaf - yummy!! This book was so good I felt I needed to share with my daughter and bought her one too.
