Book Description

1 Jun 1999
With a foreword by Michelin-starred chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, this guide to 600 pubs specializing in real ale and real food celebrates all that is good about British pub cuisine, from freshly prepared local produce and traditional meals to satisfying and adventurous listings of fine real ales with which to enjoy them. Each entry describes the locations, the beers, the menus, food prices, vegetarian selections, and the facilities for your family, as well as details of how to get there. Descriptions place an emphasis on freshly-cooked meals, from country inns to historic city-center pubs. Also featuring recipes for many popular dishes from some of Britain's best pub chefs, and split into counties for ease of use, this is the ideal book for those who love their food almost as much as their beer!

1.0 out of 5 stars dont buy it 14 Oct 2008
By jazz
Format:Paperback
We purchased this book for those out and about moments, good beer, good food! I think the writers had sampled too much beer before they got round to the food. Myself and my husband have tried several of the recommended places and while apparantly my husband thinks the beer is good, the food and quite frankly some of the surroundings left a lot to be desired. Take all recommendations with a pinch of salt. Would not ever buy this book again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Adventurous With Confidence 6 April 2000

Definitely a book to put your faith in.

I picked a pub at random solely on the basis of its location and was not disappointed. The pub was lovely, the food fabulous.

If you want to get away from chain restaurants and eat with confidence then this is the book for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars I don't know what to say 8 Dec 2000

I don't know what to say about this book. I picked out a couple of pubs and tried them but I ended up extremely disappointed. I may not have looked hard for the best but this book told me they should be exceptional. If you want to try it and see what happens I recommend it but otherwise, forget it!
