5.0 out of 5 stars A great piece of music 3 Nov 2010
Format:MP3 Download
A few weeks ago I've found a link on facebook to a songs called "Good Morning Glasgow Town" performed by a band called The Skunnered. I've never heard of this band before - but I'm a curious guy and so this was my first contact with this wonderfull music. Well, what can I say about this album? Just three words: IT IS GREAT!

"Good Morning Glasgow Town"? Just read what Chas Cunnigham wrote about this song: "One rainy Sunday morning, I was walking my dog in the hills of Neilston (where we live) and in the distance I could see Glasgow. I thought to myself "Good morning Glasgow town, on a rainy Sunday morning, like oh so many others through the years..." Well, I ran back home and grabbed pen & paper & guitar! Andrew changed the tune, and you know the rest!" Any more questions?

This music is handmade, it is honest - it is that kind of music I love. It makes me dream of a nice autumn evening in a pub somewhere in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Portree drinking my beer and listen to good music made by friends - maybe a dream dreamt by many people over here in Germany...

5.0 out of 5 stars Who DOESN'T want to drive the Wrecking Ball?? 29 Oct 2010
Format:MP3 Download
Good morning to you, Glasgow town! What an overdue pleasure is this release, and what a privilege to be the first to praise this engaging collection of tunes from these charming fellows. The Skunnered's live performances are legendary among those lucky enough to have seen them, and for good reason: They're a rollicking good time. Their wry social commentary and fluid musicianship will bring a smile to your face from the first note of Good Morning Glasgow Town. My own personal favourites are the title track, and the brilliant "Wrecking Ball" (which I've found I cannot possibly play too often, or frankly too loudly), but in all truth there's no 'B' material here---from "The Road to Aberdeen" to "The River Clyde," you WILL be taken on a journey you'll want to revisit time after time.

As a Yank whose background in Scottish folk music is fairly modest, I've quickly gained a deep appeciation for The Skunnered's unpretentious authenticity, and their obvious joy of performance. Cheers to you, lads! Let's have many many more!
