Product Description

Product Description

Special Deluxe Collector s Edition / Fully remastered sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / Produced by Terry Thomas (Bad Company, Foreigner, Tesla) / Features John Verity and Bob Henrit from Argent / 12 page full colour booklet 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork and mew interview with Terry Thomas. Although they were never a household name Charlie were actually key components in the British melodic rock scene. Formed in the early seventies, under the unlikely banner of Charlie Cuckoo, the band tried to gain attention at the height of punk rock, which effectively annexed them from the UK market. However, in the USA things were markedly different as their precise style of AOR gained them significant traction on FM radio, which resulted in the band working almost exclusively in that market. Good Morning America , originally issued in 1981, was the band's sixth album and crafted with two new members, drummer Bob Henrit and guitarist/vocalist John Verity, both formerly of Argent and fresh from former CBS great white hopes Phoenix. With band leader Terry Thomas at the production helm, and released on RCA records, the intent was to craft an album that would scale the heights of the US charts and push Charlie into the musical super league, alongside Toto, Queen and Styx. Sadly, due to record company shenanigans, it was not to be. The failure to secure commercial gain was obviously not down to the music, far from it. With tracks such as Roll The Dice , I Can't Get Over You , Heading For Home and the anthemic title track, they delivered one of the greatest yet, at the time overlooked, albums of their career and certainly one of the best in the AOR pantheon. Track listing: Good Morning America; I Can't Get Over You; Roll The Dice; Heading For Home; Saturday Night; All My Life; Look For Your Love; My Perfect Lover; I'm Angry For You; Just One More Chance; The Girl Won't Dance With Me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A VERIT-able treasure 1 July 2014
Format:Audio CD
Having followed John Veritys career in the '70's,from leader of his own blues/rock band to replacing Russ Ballard in Argent, then the Argent spin-off Phoenix,we come to the '80's.Along with drummer Bob Henrit from Argent he joined CHARLIE,this time trying his hand at AOR. Derek Oliver's sleeve notes on this Rock Candy release positively drools over this.Though I had the vinyl at the time, this hasn't stuck in my memory.Perhaps it was one of their other albums I liked more.Need to give it a few more spins, perhaps.
