Having bought this book years ago I found this an excellent book to work through. I tried the xmas cake recipe for the first time last xmas and it turned out perfect. All the instructions are clear, and they do not go wrong. So for perfect cooking, give this a go, I promise you will not regret it.
Thanks to Good Housekeeping, my cooking has improved tremendously, it turns out perfect every time.

This is the best cookbook I've ever had. I can't say bought as it was delivered to my house, addressed to an ex-tenant.
I've had this book 15 years and I still use it regularly. Almost everything in the book is easy to make with ingredients that are easily available from most supermarkets around the world. Instructions are straightforward with colour pictures along the way in case you're not sure. The colour index at the front of the book is a brilliant way for getting ideas for the next meal and I wish more cookbooks had this. Oh, and the paper is slightly waxed so you can wipe spills off it. Very important.
If you had to own 1 western style cookbook, it should be this one.

I've had this book out from my local library for a very long time until I decided to see if it was available online and it was and at a great price!
Although it is not a recent book, it is so comprehensive and provides a very simple, easy to follow layout for each recipe and, what is sorely lacking on most modern cookbooks, it has a colour picture for every single recipe, This makes all the difference when trying to decide what to make and whether it looks easy enough to attempt as well as confirming that your finished product has turned out how it is supposed to!
Lots of variety with all your basic classic dishes too. I would thoroughly recommend this as a staple to your cookbook repertoire! Very good value for money.

Bought this for my daughter to replace the one I borrowed from her many years ago. It is my most used cook book. The recipies are well illustrated and easy to follow with loads of choice. They have really good quantaties for family meals but you can easily reduce them for meals for two.

This is a well laid out, easy to follow cookery book with helpful photos that accompany a great range of traditional, classic and global recipes for both the novice and the more experienced cook. There are quick and simple recipes for the busy person and the more elaborate ones for special occasions. As well as covering essential techniques there is also practical advice on selecting foods and a guide on equipping the kitchen. So highly do I rate this cook book, I bought a second copy for my daughter.

This is a great book. Good easy to follow instruction with excellent picture support. I particularly like the index of coloured pictures which is super for planning a menu.

A kitchen reference.
This is an easy to follow and well laid out book with every recipe you'd need to be a fair to good cook. If I had to pare down to a dozen cook books this would be one of them.
