Some recipe books can be a little hit and miss in what they offer, but the amount of testing that Good Housekeeping put into their recipe books ensures that every recipe works well. I've found a few of the starters a little ambitious in their quantities (e.g. a pate as a starter for 4 that filled a whole dessert bowl and a full tupperware) but every recipe I've tried from here has worked, and there are some lovely ideas to try (it's rare for recipes to request obscure ingredients that you have no hope of finding!)

Until recently I wasn't the biggest fan of vegetarian food, generally shunning anything on my plate that was green. This book has given me the chance to cook some vegetarian meals that I enjoy immensely (both in the cooking and eating process). It has a huge range of recipes with very clear instructions and a useful pictorial recipe index at the front of the book. Of the recipes I've tried so far, none of the ingredients are too exotic, i.e. you'll find them all in your local supermarket. If this can impress me it can probably impress all but the most hardened carnivores. Even long-time vegetarians will probably find a range of recipes to keep them happy.

I think this is an excellent book for beginners in vegetarian cookery or for anyone looking to reduce their intake of meat and/or fish.

I've have just bought this book for my mother in law having had a copy myself for years. I have a lot of vegetarian cookbooks but this is the one I use the continuously. The recipes are easy and delicious, but more importantly the ingredients are all easily sourced in the UK - unlike many other cookbooks that list ingredients you have never even heard of.
