5.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas for grandparents 6 Nov 2008
By William
I have found the other `Good Granny' titles to be very good and this one lives up to the same high standard.

It's a really useful and varied collection of ideas for things to do, make and cook with grandchildren.

So, if you have forgotten the rules for family card games, like Racing Demon or Donkey, you will find them in here. Plus ideas for games to play on long car journeys, outside, craft activities etc. There are recommendations for great days out with young children, as well as the best museums.

My favourite chapter is "songs, rhymes and stories" which is a great reminder of the words to traditional nursery rhymes, as well as some more irreverent ones such as "While shepherds washed their socks by night". For the more forgetful members of the grandparents' generation, there are also some really handy lists, such as Kings and Queens and their dates, Greek, Roman, Hindu and Norse gods and goddesses, saints and planets.

As it's title suggests, the book is aimed at grandparents, with an emphasis very much on traditional games and stories, but I think parents would also find it very useful. A great Christmas present to give to grandma.

4.0 out of 5 stars A present for a new grandmother 6 Jun 2009
I gave this to an old friend who has just become a grandmother (twice over). She was thrilled with it and had read a review of it or seen something about it on television. I am a grandmother too and I think I would be pleased if I were given it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Granny's Safety Net 3 May 2009
Having borrowed THE GOOD GRANNY COMPANION from the library I swiftly realised it would make a very useful reference book as it is stuffed full of ideas to entertain children, as well as addresses of places to visit, words of songs and rhymes and rules of card games, not to mention recipes and craftwork to try out. The tone is relaxed and encouraging, making it an ideal gift for a new granny.
