Product Description

Product Description

The Good Food Team and their favourite celebrity chefs have been planning and cooking Christmas for their readers for fifteen very successful years. This book, which represents amazingly good value at 7.99 for the paperback, is the culmination of all that experience and the definitive guide to seasonal cooking and entertaining over this most important time of the year.

Full of tips and secrets to ensure that every dish is a rip-roaring success, the cook will be relaxed in the knowledge that all the dishes are practical and easy to follow.

Time is of short supply during the festive season so the book shows the reader what can be done ahead, what can be frozen and how to cheat successfully when the chips are down.

Readers will find over 80 festive recipes, all photographed, and features also include the complete Christmas day feast with timeplan, and guest contributions from all the top chefs.

By Mirage HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Worth checking that this doesn't already appear on your bookshelf, as this is an old book with a nice new dust-jacket - underneath is the somewhat dated looking original gold cover.

Having said that it is a useful compilation of 80+ festive, tried and tested recipes from celebrity chefs, food writers, and the team at BBC 'Good Food' Magazine, (recipes previously published in the Magazine) - 'every Christmas recipe you'll need from canapés to Christmas Cake.'

144 high quality, shiny pages split over main chapters:

1. Get a Head Start for Christmas
2. Easy Entertaining
3. Christmas Day Lunch
4. Not the Christmas Turkey
5. Vegetarian Christmas Crackers
6. Other Fabulous Desserts
7. Decorating the Cake

Along with an introduction, a 'Christmas Made Easy' planner, an index and a 'Christmas by Mail Order section', (the book is now over two years old, so this information may have changed) and a 2-page time-plan.

Each recipe has a timing and an ingredients list with a clear step-by-step method, interspersed with 'alternatives' and useful tips, along with 'chefs' serving suggestions'.

Festive photography throughout, although the 'step-by-step photographs, to help you get the best results', are fewer that this text implies.

The rear cover has an alphabetical list of all the contributors, including Darina Allen, Raymond Blanc, Antonio Carluccio, Ainsley Harriott, James Martin, Nick Nairn, Gordon Ramsay, Rick Stein and Gregg Wallace.
Mary Cadogan, the editor, 'is a food writer with a wealth of experience in many areas of the food world.'

A small taste of the recipes included:

* Mary Berry's Christmas Chutney
* James Martin's Bean & Ham Hock Soup
* Ross Burden's Bourbon & Maple-Glazed Ham
* Tony Tobin's Pork & Parsnip Cobbler
* Moyra Fraser's Venison in Beer with Drunken Prunes
* Phil Vickery's Chocolate Torte
* Jeni Wright's Satay Shots
* Gordon Ramsay's Cream of Cauliflower Soup with Sautéed Wild Mushrooms
* Raymond Blanc's Chestnut Stuffing
* Ainsley Harriott's Spice-Roasted Butternut Squash

and Mary Cadogan's Prepare-Ahead Supper:
'An excellent Boxing Day buffet when everyone is turkeyed out. It's full of lively & exotic flavours you can prepare ahead of time and chill, or even freeze, the lamb and dessert.
All that's required on the night is a little light garnishing.'

Great book, buy it! 5 Jan 2006
Format:Hardcover
I bought 2 books for Christmas this year as it was my first year cooking for the family, the other was Delia Smith's Christmas.

By far this was the better book, with a wonderful collection of tasty dishes. It guides you though the recipies step by step with pictures. It covers all aspects of Christmas cooking (not just the turkey - athough it has a really easy guide to preparing and cooking your turkey, which is great if you are a novice like me!) there's everything... Christmas nibbles, starters, soups, meats, vegetarian, yummy puds and even has hints on decorating your Christmas table!

There's lots of things that you can prepare ahead and freeze for a slightly more relaxing Chritmas, without being chained to the stove!
