This is one of those albums that becomes a favourite, not necessarily because of the consistency of the songs, but for the moments when the good songs aren't just good, they are superb; spine tingling gems that make you wonder why all music can't be this good.
The album opens with a quickly faded in piano and the voice of an angel singing "What a beautiful peace of heartache this all turned out to be." You couldn't wish for a better synopsis of a body of music.
Maybe the most remarkable thing about the album is that it was largely recorded in a bedroom. The quality of the recording and production belies this, the music having an intimacy that most albums cannot boast.
Largely acoustic, piano and acoustic guitar give the bulk of the instruments' melodies, understated drums complementing the fine mucisianship and superb female vocals. You can see why they have been out on the road with the Cowboy Junkies. Not as etherial as the Junkies, with more of an edge, this is an excellent album for lovers of high quality acoustic based pop music. The melodies haunt you...
