"The Good Deeds Society" is another short story in the Dark Crossings series by co-authors David Wright and Sean Platt. This Kindle e-book was a 188 Kb download (approx. 69 printed pages) and sold for $0.99 at the time of writing this review.

Please Note: the authors have provided me with an advanced copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Spoilers (general theme)

Hugh and Amy's life was going fairly smoothly until Amy started having dreams of the Lady in the Light. The Lady instructed Amy (and others in the neighborhood as well) to simply do a specified good deed. Suddenly everyone seemed happier and more content with their lives. Hugh, against all the evidence, remains very skeptical as he feels all this do-gooding stuff is just a little too idealistic and must have some sort of downside. Turns out of course, he's right... he just didn't know he was the main target.

End Spoilers

Some thoughts on "The Good Deed Society"...

1.) a short read... well written and superbly told.

2.) a nice sense of pace and timing... skills that are usually well honed in seasoned storytellers, as is the case here.

3.) although you knew something was amiss through this entire story, the ending was still a complete surprise.

Conclusion.
Another 'Dark Crossings' gem.

I liked it immediately. The plot was very good and the characters were described really well. I read it in one sitting because I was eager to know what is going to happen next. very good book.
