If you've clicked thus far you probably know what the Good Beer Guide is. What you'll want to know is, is this edition of the same high quality? Well yes it is, as usual it?s got the same independently voted for pubs, clear information and detailed knowledge of all areas.
However this year the guide has increased its descriptions of each outlet to a very elaborate manner. Gone are the short shrift mentions, in are large verbose details of all the main entrants.
If you have bought a previous GBG you will also note that the "try also" feature has been dispensed with. In its place is a new Inn Brief section that adds additional pubs to a particular area. Now this is where the latest GBG does fall down.
The Inn Brief sections are far too disjointed from the main flow of the book. You can easily lose entrants for a particular place and sometimes you are rummaging for a place because it?s in a separate Inn Brief section. The Inn brief mentions are better than try also?s, but harder to find.
My review will score 5/5 as its based on quality and quantity of the book itself. However CAMRA needs to remove the try-also/ inn-brief feature. It doesn?t work and if a pub is in, it should be mentioned properly.
This cannot detract from the guides overall usefulness, appeal, research and quality... it's a bargain.
