I'm gonna have to temper some of the bad reviews of this album coz it's nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews on here say it is. Now i've been a fan of Mr Thomas since 1992 when i first heard "i'm in luv" and have been a devoted fan right through his Jive days and now the material he's recording for his own label, not all of Joe's albums have been amazing mind you, several releases have been mediocre at best but "The Good the bad and the sexy" isn't one of them. That said, this is far from Joe's best work but it is a lot better than mediocrity like "New man" etc from several years back.
The album see's Joe team up with a selection of local producers who have furnished him with the usual bevvy of love songs and mid tempo groovers. One thing Joe has never needed is other producers, most of the man's best material was those songs he wrote and prod himself, i really can't understand why he continually does it but here he gives over the whole album to other producers which seems kinda pointless when every song is musically Joe right through to the hooks and chord progressions?
Some have commented on the loverman sexist lyrical content, my take is basically - so what? Joe isn't doing anything other singers of this ilk have done a thousand times before are you listening R Kelly!) could the lyrics be more original? - Sure but for me it doesn't spoil the enjoyment of the album one bit.
Although this LP isn't a classic it does have a few killer songs like the brilliant album opener "Losing", with the likes of "Dear Joe" and "Circles" coming close second, the album loses a bit of steam towards the end but for any Joe fan this is still a worthwhile purchase. I do agree with another reviewer that Joe does seem to release one brilliant album then another not so good? - This isn't as classy as his last album "Signature" but it is still a good album.
