Product Description

Amanda Wilcox is a well-known young activist who disappears paddleboarding on Kauai. Her tragedy becomes fodder for the tabloid media, especially in Manhattan where her father is a prominent lawyer.

Amanda is even friends with a famous actress, who pledges to do anything to find her friend. But it falls to the retired NYPD detective and private investigator Karl Standt to go to the Hawaiian island and fix the botched, seamy investigation. He finds a web of murky connections in the tropical paradise, hints of corruption that eventually exposes the island's underside.

Joining him on Kauai is a girlfriend and reporter for Slate magazine. Together, along with Standt's hacker buddy, they are immersed in an atmospheric, equatorial drama to uncover the elusive evidence of what happened to an All American girl.

More About the Author

Over the course of a decades-long writing career, I've written on the environment, software, and fitness. Now fiction-"Barbarous Coasts" is the first novel I've published (literally, self-published). I think the natural world, ecology, and human fitness are deeply entwined. I like spending lots of time in the mountains-skiing, climbing, hiking, thinking.

My next novel, coming early this summer, takes place in the mountains.

Most of my time is spent with my family in Vermont and Massachusetts, USA.

Our good NYPD (Ret) Detective Karl Standt is on the road to Hawaii. He has been hired by Sam Wilcox, Attorney, to locate his daughter, Amanda who has disappeared on Kauai. Mystery abounds in several directions after Standt arrives there. Amanda was working for the Pure Food World (PFW) and was studying the GMO industry.

Corrupt cops on payroll? Bribes being paid? The imagery in this book is outstanding.

Adventure, action and a mystery to solve in this one. Most highly recommended.
