I have read most of this author's books. I found her earlier novels (e.g. The Birdman, The Treatment), to be very good, but her more recent ones, such as Pig Island, to be poor. I was not too sure as to what to expect with this one.
The story revolves around a carjacker, who is deliberately stealing cars, that have children in them. DI Jack Caffery is investigating the crimes. DS Phobe 'Flea' Marley of the police underwater unit is also assisting in the search.
This is a very exciting thriller, as good as Mo's earlier works. The characters of Caffrey and 'Flea' Marley are becoming more developed, and I even found the 'Walking Man' parts of the story engaging. One of the better thrillers that I have read this year!

I have read all Mo Hayder's books and this is definitely the best yet! Couldn't put it down, stayed up all night and didn't want it to end. I agree with some of the other reviewers, although all Hayder's books are brilliant, well-written and gripping, Skin and Ritual weren't as good as Pig Island, Birdman, The Treatment and Tokyo. Having said that, Skin and Ritual are still superior to most of the dark crime thrillers out there.
I can't wait for her next book; other writers pale in comparison to
Mo Hayder.

An enjoyable book, the character of the main detective is well drawn.
For me the woman, Flea, is as irritating as her name- is she one of those characters the writer is over fond of, and thinks too much of?
The antics of this Flea, though central to the book are a distraction, and I really wish she had been relegated to a much more minor role- she is such an utter bore.
That apart, well worth reading.

A riveting thriller
Not too many people will argue with me when I say that Mo Hayder writes gripping thrillers. This, in my opinion, is her best so far, of the ones that I've read, anyway. Read more

Gone ... and forgotten
Loved Mo Hayder's earlier books Birdman & Treatment but found Skin & Gone very predictable ...and to be honest, boring! Read more

Back to her best
I have read all of Mo Hayder's books. The early ones are a lot stronger than the latter ones. That is not to say that I am not a fan of the Walking man series. Read more

not as good
i love Mo Hayder and couldn't wait for her next book. Unfortunatly Gone was not as good as her other ones. It lacked the edge and shocking elements and i was a little dissapointed.
