Book Description

14 Nov 2005
Darren Clarke, the hugely charismatic golfer from Northern Ireland, has a formidable record in three Ryder Cups as well as in international tournaments. He has beaten Tiger Woods in the Accenture 36 hole match final - one of the world's great tournaments.
Here he uses his own experience to emphasise the psychological aspect of golf and its vital importance to the game in this instructional book.
However good the technical swing of a golfer, it will be of little use if he or she is not in control of the all-important mental side of the game.
In 'Golf - The Mind Factor', Darren Clarke guides the despairing and sometimes suicidal golfer through the nightmare scenarios that fill him with fear.
Giving credit to Karl Morris, his own 'Dr Golf', Darren highlights the specific problems that have caused intermittent hiccups in his outstanding career, and answers queries that all golfers will be grateful for.
This immensely helpful, well-structured book will appeal immediately to all amateur golfers and those who want to improve their game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some help for everyone serious about improving. 24 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I don't think there isn't a golfer (like me) who wouldn't love to have as swing a sweet as Darren Clarke's but his The Mind Factor with Dr Karl Morris has given me an insight into how a top class pro manages his mental game, which as the book so abley demonstrates is as important if not more so than the swing.
Like Darren appears on screen, I found it a pleasant, friendly, easy approachable but professional effort particularly helped by the layout of the 'dialogue' between player and mental guru.It seemed to have much more empathy with the real life golf and emotions me and my partners seem to endure each weekend. I liked the highlighted 'Nugget' tip reinforcements within each chapter very helpful, the bold type face and Darren's true to life anecdotes and Dr Morris's clinical common sense theories have given me a fresh new rejuvenated approach to my golf.
A much more digestable book than other mental stuff I've read and I feel it would help any golfer at any level-the putting chapter alone was worth the cost of the book for me and has already transformed my thinking. Well done Darren and Karl for a common sense guide to an often mis-understood, confusing part of the game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe a tad "dumbed down"? 3 Feb 2006
By Roger Sharp VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Darren Clarke is a great golfer, and Dr Karl Morris is an equally great sports psychologist, but this book doesn't ever seem to allow either of them the space to nail the subject.

Karl Morris never really gets the space to expand on anything but the very tip of his knowledge, probably in an attempt to make the book more accessible.

It's probably for this reason that he is restricted to dealing with some of the basic fundementals of NLP - perhaps by now a somewhat well-worn path - rather than having licence to allow some in-depth analysis of a subject that he has deep knowledge of.

In any event, this is not a bad book for the novice golfer and it contains some sound advice on how to improve your game. On the other hand, there's nothing here that Darren wouldn't want you to read, and maybe that is the fundemental weakness of the book.
