* It has long been known that there were great recordings in the vaults and we have made the ones that first sneaked out on Japanese releases many years ago available to all. In addition, during our tape research, we found some excellent previously unheard music and this has been featured on individual artists' CDs; on the first two volumes of the Goldwax Story and on the more recent Goldwax Northern Soul release.
* Though all the 45s have now been issued on the Ace CDs, Kent fans may not have gone for those eclectic, thorough and catholic compilations and we have also included the best of the previously unheard issued sides on here too. Half the CD has never been issued at all and there are some great soulful recordings from George Jackson, Dan Greer, Percy Milem, the Ovations and surprise discovery Lee "Shot" Williams.
* The ever-popular Unknown Artist turns up with a handful of tracks too good to leave on the tape shelves and as this chap is a Goldwax recording artist his work is of great interest to the vintage soul world.
* A recent photo find of Goldwax artists has made this compilation even more essential and shots of George (Jackson) & (Dan) Greer and a previously unseen publicity photo of James Carr among others are exciting finds that further fills in the Goldwax story.
* Compiled and annotated by Ady Croasdell.
