Product Description

This Goldsource ST-1500 Step-down and Step-up Voltage Converter (also described as a step down or step up voltage transformer) is for use in the UK to power electrical equipment from the USA. What it does is convert UK 220 - 240 volts to US 110 - 120 volts. The output is pure AC and the voltage converter can be used with all appliances rated 0 - 1500W. This voltage converter will take US two pin and three pin plugs. OK for use with everything with a rating of 1500 Watts or below (although in practice it is a good idea to allow some margin for error). This would include just about everything from computers, TVs and Hi-fis to most heavy duty industrial equipment (check rating to be sure). This is a heavy duty desktop voltage converter and it weighs nearly 8.5KG.

Simply plug the voltage converter into a UK socket and plug the US plug into the voltage converter.

We sell this primarily as a Step Down voltage converter as it is fitted with a UK 3 pin plug. However, all Goldsource converters are very versatile and have the ability to also be used as step up converters (to allow the use of UK equipment in the US). If you wish to do this, all you need to do is change the jumper switch at the back of the converter and fit an adapter to the power plug.

It can also be used in other European countries to power items from the US, all you need to do is use an adapter to change the UK plug.

I recently moved to the UK and didn't want to replace all my appliances. This works great with coffee maker to vacuum cleaner. Always check the wattage of the appliace before use but I would recommend the product. It is heavy though.

I've just moved back from the US to the UK and brought a lot of electrical gear with me. So I've got a few transformers now; some acquired in the US to serve UK gear over there, some here to do the reverse. Although there seem to be a few brands selling versions that look pretty much the same - bar a few bits of styling, or the presence/lack of a USB power port - the two Goldsource ones I just got seem to me to be by far the best.

All the ones of this general shape & appearance seem really sturdy, solid and reliably constructed - but there are two real extra benefits with these:

- Firstly, the power input is an IEC socket, so you can fit whatever length of cable with whichever fitting of plug you want. Big win against some of the others, particularly the US "Rockstone" ones which have really short cables with injection-moulded plugs hard-fixed to the units. (Urgh.)

- Second, and the real kicker: these Goldsource ones just don't make any noise. It could just be these specific units, and I don't want to tempt providence as I've only had them a couple of days - but the others I have (3000W, 2000W, 1000W Rockstone, and a much smaller 100vA wall-wart style cheapo one I got from Maplin in London) all make a varying level of annoying hum or even buzz. These just don't. Ahhh.

Bought it to use with our Takoyaki (たこ焼き)cooker.
It's about 1000w, so bought something a lot meatier (as some don't reach the advertised wattage without failing).

Good product. I use this in my UK apartment to power all my electronics I brought over from the USA. Works well. I have used it with 1000w clothes irons and it is fine. Also use it with my PS3 and it is good.
Doesn't run hot or anything.

Very heavy though, so be aware of that. And the plug cord is not the longest thing in the world so you may need to pair it with an extension cord.

I have moved back to the UK from 110 volt land. I have a clothes steamer, a large laser printer, a high powered electric drill. These are what I have used plugged into this device, without any hassle. Just plug it in the right holes and it just works. No problems whatsoever and I will buy one or two more in the next year as other items of 110 volt stuff needs to be got working. The delivery was great, too.

this is very useful if you have lots of US appliances you want to bring with when moving to UK.
It weighs about 10kg but it can be put in a corner with a (US) power strip and several appliances connected to it.
works fine with a blender and espresso machine and coffee grinder
