Fun and adventure 6 Feb 2011
By Bezerus Bezby VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
My son is eight and this was just the ticket. Basic plot line: 17th century Cornwall, Jude's mother was called a witch. Her son is a 'finder' with a rather odd power, that he can sense gold. My son was obsessed with this idea and dearly wished that he also could have this power. This book was well written for young children, adventurous and good fun. The characters are well developed and there is enough mystery and intrigue for adults who might be helping children read this book, as I did, enthralled. Little gem really!

EXCELLENT 16 Jan 2011
By Mrs. A. M. Chadwick TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Jude Lanyon is a 17th Century Cornish boy who is left an orphan when both his parents die, as he's no other family he's to be sent to his Aunty who lives in Penzance.

For a little while he stays with Farmer Scoble and his family, whilst there he becomes friends with a kitten. Jude is dreading having to go to his Aunt's so he and his new little friend run away to seek their fortune.

While Jude is taking a breather from his long journey he runs into a man who calls himself Uncle Momo, he also has a cat. The man promises Jude he'll feed him and give him somewhere to stay.

The journey ends at a little cottage on St. Michael's Mount; Jude discovers he's not the only youngster there. Here Jude discovers he's no longer free and Uncle Momo has other plans for him as well as the other children. Although Jude tries to escape he only makes matters worse for himself and then discovers his true and terrifying fate.

During his journey Jude makes a lot of new and unusual friends as well as enemies, his one wish is to be free again.

I'm not going to say anything else about the story as I'll spoil it for you and that would be a real shame as I found this to be a fantastic adventure book.

Even though this is classed as a book for young readers, I found it really didn't matter what age you are, the only thing you must enjoy is adventure. :-)

I found this a compulsive and enjoyable read, the personality and depth of the characters are great, and you can just imagine bumping into someone like this. Another thing I loved is the way the author based this in Cornwall, (which I love), and refers to real places. :-)

I'd highly recommend this book to all who like adventure, it really is an enjoyable and compulsive read and worth every penny. :-)

By Book Gannet TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Being born with the gift of finding gold, no matter where it's hidden, Jude Lanyon is surely the luckiest of boys. Until his mother falls ill, and his world falls apart. As things keep getting worse for Jude, he soon learns that gold is a curse, leading some people to do terrible things.

Luckily, Jude has a kitten companion and a quick mind, both of which he's going to need, because all treasure comes with pirates. And they're not the only ones with gold on their minds.

Full of myths and Eastern promise, Jude's adventures take him from the wilds of Cornwall to the high seas, with a dash of magic and plenty of villains along the way. While Jude might not always be the smartest boy, he's strong willed and brave enough to find a way, no matter how dark things get. Adventurous fun for young swashbucklers everywhere.
