Goldeneye remembered! 15 Dec 2011
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Standard Edition
Fun:
I do of course remember '97 and the original Goldeneye game. It was groundbreaking for its time and a true classic. So I had my nostalgic face on when I first played the new version.

The game has been updated, the plot been modernised and Brosnan dropped in favour of Daniel Craig as well as other characters having their appearance swapped. But despite all this it's still recognisable as the same game, some of the classic moments remain (taking the guard out on the toilet... genius!) and the overall feel of the game is slicker, but still faithful.

The new levels have been designed well (The Club level particularly created an excellent surrounding) and it genuinely feels like both an update and a progression from the first game.

As a modern FPS, it's probably not quite as action packed and slick as Battlefield or COD, but it doesn't really try to be. The stealth doesn't always seem to work as well as I'd like, but controlling Bond through fire fights is easy. The single player mode isn't overly hard, but still maintains enough challenge.

Multiplayer is back (including the 4 player split screen N64 classic style) and modes have been 'borrowed' from more recent titles, and it is in this department the game probably falls a little short.

Overall, if you played the original, there are memories here, but failing that it still stands as a good FPS which is worth a blast!

Not a remake... 25 Feb 2012
By Markie
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Standard Edition
Fun:
If you are looking for 'The Adventures of Daniel Craig and his Pretty Little Smartphone' then you've come to the right place. If you wanted a good re-imagining of the original Goldeneye then I'm sorry, but you won't find one here.

I anticipated some differences. I expected a revamped plot, a change of scenery and a modernized game. But not to the extent that it's practically unrecognizable. This, bar a few character names, is an entirely new (and somewhat underwhelming) game. It's difficult to watch something I enjoyed get so heavily sabotaged.

My favorite part of the game was actually shooting the locks off the doors to open them. This is practically the only thing that made me reminiscent. I spent the rest of the game going "What? Why haven't they put [insert something fun from the old game here] in."

It may seem like I'm attacking this game based on a comparison to the original, which isn't really fair. But it doesn't deserve more than one star in its own right. The AI is awful, the bad guys all look the same, the rooms are all pretty similar. I would have relished in all these things if the plot and scenery more closely resembled the original, simply for their nostalgic value. However, if you're going to make an entirely new game, don't just keep all bad bits. Those are the bits we're happy for you to 're-imagine.'

I have no idea why this has got positive reviews on here. I assume they must be written by fanboys who love anything with 007 on it. It's an awful game.

We all remember the original game on the N64, it was ground breaking kept to the story well. It is a game that stands the test of time, and still worth going on now and again. This new Goldeneye game however is nothing of the sort. Its old fashioned cover system which means basically it has none, the story line has been changed and if your a fan off Bond you'll find it embarrassing to watch and follow. I'm a fan of Daniel Craig as Bond I believe his movie's and other games are great. But why the need to remake a classic? I found it to be a waste of time and money, even if you ignore it as a bond game and play it just as a simple first person shooter, you will be very much annoyed with what you can and can't do compared to that of other games out to date.

Honestly you want to be Bond play Quantum of Solace again.

fair enough for the price
this game is good fun to play, not a serious game as other shooters as battlefield, but for £25 your moneys well spent.

An improvement but not great.
It's an improvement on recent bond games but the gameplay is still very rigid and sluggish, it feels like playing the original MOH games but with updated graphics. Read more
