Biography

Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
The cliché about David Bowie says he's a musical chameleon, adapting himself according to fashion and trends. While such a criticism is too glib, there's no denying that Bowie demonstrated remarkable skill for perceiving musical trends at his peak in the '70s. After spending several years in the late '60s as a mod and as an all-around music-hall entertainer,… Read more in Amazon's David Bowie Store

Why not? 22 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
There has been some adverse comments about these remix's - why meddle with the original 'best' version? - but hasn't Bowie himself adapted, re-worked & indeed revisited previous issued works? I thought the remix of Moonage Daydream (turning up Mick Ronson's guitar) was great! All three versions of 'John, I'm Only Dancing' are excellent.

Whilst you may not consider all four of the versions on offer here to be in the same category they all bring something different out of the original. The Jeremy Sole mix uses the original vocals over a re-recorded backing using 70's style recording techniques (2" analogue tape). The Anthony Valadez is more dance orientated whilst the other two are sparser more 'industrial'. If you like all the Station to Station album I'm sure you will love these.

Brilliant. The Jeremy Sole mix he apparently jetted off to the east coast, got his musaics together and only used equipment that was made up to the time of the original recording and went for a kind of jamaican feel. Sounds like it could be a bit pompous but it's, well, great. 5 star.

For those of you who do not remember the original release you will have the chance to listen to it because it is on here. When you know that there are several mixes of the original, then I am sure that you will want to purchase.A good deal from an old master of a music artist.
