The Golden Goblet 2 Jun 2009
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
The Golden Goblet is about a boy called Ranofer who lives in Ancient Egypt. His dream is to become a master goldsmith, however his mean half-brother, Gebu the Stonecutter, apprentices him against his will at his own stonecutting shop. Ranofer's life changes when he accidentally discovers a priceless posession of Gebu's.

The main theme in The Golden Goblet is friendship. Ranofer's whole personality and view on life was changed by his friendship with his two friends, Heqet and the Ancient. Had he not have had his friends to back him up, Ranofer would never have had the courage to do what he had to do.

I liked The Golden Goblet because it had a very satisfying ending. The way it was written was very realistic and had lots of detail which made the book even better.

The Golden Goblet, by Eloise Jarvis McGraw, is a pretty good book. It takes place in Ancient Egypt. It is about a boy, Ranofer, and how he finds out that his mean half-brother is tomb robber, and what he does about it. I'm a seventh grader and I had to read it for language arts. Most people in my grade hated it, but I thought it was pretty good. It was definetly not the best I've read, but I know I would like to read it again. I recommend that you read this book. For some people, it might seem long. I think it is a good reading level for my age, though older or younger may injoy it. One thing bad is that it starts out really slow. Read this book!

I first read this book when I was twelve. Now, years later, I still love it. The first chapter was interesting - not deadly exciting, but I really liked Ancient Egypt at the time (still do) so I kept at it. I admit, I fell asleep while reading the second chapter, but not long after I woke up and started reading again, I couldn't put it down. The first real book I ever read. I loved this book, and still do!
