I love Bruce Davison so I'm bound to buy his movies and this one is no different. I love Christmas movies too but this one didn't hit the spot for me and I don't like that. Bruce Davison and most of the cast were excellent but the main female lead was awful and made the film feel stitched together. I know her character is meant to be frosty (pardon the pun) but she is really frosty to the point of frigidity, and as such you don't really want to invest in her character.
I was also confused by the film's synopsis on the back cover where they claim: 'But a comedic case of mistaken identity has them competing for the same childhood memories and crazy, Christmas escapades ensue.' You'd think you were in for a fast moving comic adventure but sadly you'd be wrong. There is very little, practically no 'comedic' moments, there are no 'comedic cases of mistaken identity' and there are definitely no competing for childhood memories and no Christmas escapades ensue. So I wonder if they wrote that referring to an earlier draft of the movie perhaps. This is dire, slow and plodding and had it not been for Bruce Davison being in it I would have switched it off. Sorry to say that but I have to be honest, this has such potential and bruce Davison and I wonder if the main female lead (Jessie) and the character of Michael had been played by different actors if this would have been better.
