My all time favorite children's books!,

Like so many others that wrote, this was my favorite childhood book. I have a very tattered 1955 version, but needed to find it again to give to other children. I, too, searched high and low, and found a few in vintage shops, usually worn and torn; I suspect by pixies. The asking price was often in excess of $200, a price I would have paid if all the pages had been there.I am ecstatic to see it re-released. I will read and re-read it and enjoy the world that I have known exists, since the first time I read about it in this enchanting and wistful book. Thanks to Golden Books for the re-release. Next, I want them to release a series of re-prints of the art, in frameable plates. (Please!) CQS

Magical illustrations that have stayed with me for 35 years!,

I've held my childhood memories of the illustrations from this beautiful book for years, and I've periodically searched for another copy. I was thrilled to see it re-issued, and prayed that the illustrations hadn't been "modernized". What a thrill when it arrived! My five year old daughter is as entranced with it as I was at her age, and will ask to replace her night-time tv program with the "magic fairy book". The stories are somewhat long for small children, but they hold the attention of my daughter very well. When we've finished reading, we keep the book open to look at the beautiful illustrations. Every picture in my mind of "Elves or Fairies" is drawn from this book, and there isn't a better place to find them.

This book belonged to my elementary school library and I used to get scolded by the librarian for checking it out so often! As an adult I have searched EVERYWHERE for it. Bless the internet and Amazon Books! I had nearly lost hope! Now my five (so far) grandchilden can get lost in the same magical world I have never forgotten. Garth Williams' illustrations are as vivid in my mind as when I was a little girl (especially the old fisherman and the baby mermaid!) Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
