The Golden Ashfruit has great pacing. The beginning builds up to it, but once the reader is acquainted with the faerie world, the subplots, and the unique power system, it takes off and does not stop. I liked the fresh angle on Norse mythology. It's not just a book about faeries, and it's not the lighthearted book you would expect.
The action packed story and complex relationships kept me engaged. I appreciated the fact that it doesn't feature a typical romance, it doesn't take away from the rest of the story, and the development was believable. I think many people will be able to connect with the notion of a relationship that doesn't go quite as you envisioned it.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any fantasy reader looking for a quick read or a fresh take on faeries and Norse Mythology.
