... but a somewhat pointless album. This is the third 'greatest hits' that bear Sublime's name in one way or another.
Yes, it's got all of Sublime's biggest hits and then some on here, but 'Gold' is a puzzling compilation. The number of tracks on here suggests that this album would require a great investment by the listener to listen to the whole album, which suggests it is for hardcore fans only. But these type of fans will already have Sublime's 3 major albums. Couple that with the fact that there is nothing new on here, and you're left wondering exactly who will buy this.
To paraphrase Moby, an album is a set of individual ideas held together by one theme. There's no on-running theme in this album, except they're all Sublime songs. Newbies would be far better off purchasing the self-titled album, or even 'Greatest Hits'. Hardcore fans would spend money more wisely by buying 'Everything Under The Sun'.
But to be fair, and to contradict myself, at least they're not skimping on the tracks. While this could be viewed as a final cash cow, at least you're getting value for money. And, being Sublime, the music is of course great.
