5.0 out of 5 stars review of Wilbur Smith's 'Gold Mine' 25 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is one cracking book.
The way Wilbur Smith writes is incredibly dramatic.
When I read this book I was there with all those sweaty miners, with all the dust and the heat and the back-breaking work. He describes the lives of the miners and the events of the time with amazing clarity. You actually feel that you're there with all the hard-drinking and the hard-living going on. You can almost smell the sweat and gag on the dust. This bloke can write a story!!!

This is another great book from Wilbur Smith. It does take a couple of chapters to get into but soon you will not be able to put it down. The subject is brilliant, the twists are well though out and there a lot of adventure to keep you reading. Well worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Gold 11 July 2012
Format:Paperback
The really great Authors are able to take a specialist subject and weave a compelling tale around it without getting overly detailed nor loose the reader. Wilbur Smith is an Author exactly like that and Gold Mine is a book such as that.

In this book you get a taste of South Africa and a taste of what type of men it takes to mine gold and how the lure of gold can transcend humanity and common sense. This is mixed with an element of romance and adventure to create a potent mix and a great read.
