Countless tribute and sound-a-like bands have had various stabs at mimicking the magic of ABBA. Of the bunch, Steps have been the most successful in their attempts to nurture a similar ABBA-esque musical style and image. It comes as no surprise that Steps should call their "best of" anthology Gold, just like the bestselling "best of" from their Swedish heroes. The ABBA influences can be heard right from their earliest material--"One For Sorrow" to "After The Love Has Gone" (October 1999), through to newer compositions such as "Baby Don't Dance" (an updated version of "Voulez-Vous?"). Released at the peak of the line-dancing craze in the UK, their thigh-slapping debut "5,6,7,8" thus sounds remarkably out of place. Proving that they're no puppets of Mr Waterman, the Euro-pop style "Only In My Dreams" is the first song written by Steps as a group. Their cover of Diana Ross's 1986 number one "Chain Reaction" looks destined, along with "Tragedy" and the 70s disco inspired hit "Stomp", to become the songs which future generations will best remember Claire, Faye, Lisa, H and Lee for. --John Galilee

This album goes to show that Steps are the best when it comes to pop music. Full with all the old his and the recent Chain Reaction as well as Three new songs added this album will have you dancing from start to finish. This album shows how Steps have gone from strength to strengh since releasing 5,6,7,8 in 1997 and were dismissed as 1 hit wonders. lets hope Steps are here for many years to come if this album Steps!!!

They started off as a "one hit wonder, line dancing, novelty act" when 5678 brewed up a storm.
And now look at them. Chain Reaction looks set to blast into the top 5 - giving them 12 in a row! So - is it too early for a greatest hits? Quite simply - no! They have had 18 singles counting Chain Reaction (which does raise the question of why You'll Be Sorry was missed out off the album) - plus three new ones especially for the Greatest Hits CD.
The album features all of their well known tunes from the dancey Deeper Shade Of Blue and Here And Now - through to the cheesy Last Thing On My Mind and 5678, and the power ballads When I Said Goodbye, Heartbeat and Its The Way You Make Me Feel. And who could forget Tragedy?! Theie first number one which has done over one million copies!
So here is to a career of a band - who although are only four years old - have given us one heck of a Greatest Hits!

For those of us who revel in the cheesy, trashy, Euro-disco genre of music, Steps are the cream of the proverbial crop. However, sadly enough, they don't seem to have what it takes to stay as long as some acts with divine precedence over the pop kingdom, such as Kylie, Madonna, and Robbie. Therefore, you can hardly group Steps in the same category as heavyweights like these pop giants. They're more like throwaways such as Atomic Kitten, S Club 7, and yes, the once-popular Spice Girls. All these groups are beautiful with limited talent. No reason not to like them, they're bright and shiny, much like a coin. Unfortunately, also like a coin, they aren't worth much in most cases. If you're looking for something fun, fast, and light, go for Steps. You wanna sink your teeth into something sexy, tongue-in-cheek, and all over tasty? Grab Kylie's "Fever"... but keep Steps in mind. They're the pop equivalent of a one night stand, Steps just happens to be the kind of pop group that takes up a whole weekend rather than their allotted night.

Ordered this CD last week, it came today.... WOW!
I literally haven't listened to Steps in 10 years, and totally forgot that some of the songs they sang existed! Me and 3 of my friends are all listening to it reminiscing about our childhoods. I would recommend this to anyone- especially as the 2nd hand versions are so cheap: mine was £0.12!!
It's amazing that even after 10 years, you can still remember the words! :D <3

Great album well made, loads of good tracks. My daughter asked for this for her birthday as she has friends who have it. She has not been disappointed. She plays it every night at bedtime and it is a firm favourite. I never thought my 7 year old would like songs I used to listen to. If pop is your thing go for ths.

I loved STEPS and this CD brought back lots of happy memories. The music was cheesy and fun and everyone danced and sang along to these tunes. I recommend it for that dance around the living room night that no one admits to but does now and again. Thank you STEPS!

Birthday Gift
I bought this for daughter who enjoyed watching the band reform on the tv. I would've bought the tour album but she raved about the past hits featured on the programme.
