Product Description

Product Description

The epic search to unravel surfing's great mystery.....who started the Shortboard Revolution? Was it as legend has it, the Hawaiians with their giant waves and proud Polynesian tradition, or the Californians, who continue to be the commercial machine of modern surfing? Or was it the brainchild of Australian surfing legend and surfboard designer Bob McTavish, collaborating with American expat, George Greenough. The debate still rages across the Pacific-who really lit the fuse of this surfing revolution during the tumultuous 167 'summer of love' that turn the sport, literally upside down.

I moved inland about 13 years ago and ever since I've had very few chances to get back on a board. It's one of the only things I miss from where I grew up. The whole experience is something spiritual (and that's coming from an atheist). You can't describe to someone what surfing is like. They have to experience it for themselves. I plan on making sure my daughter knows just how special a feeling it is.

I've always been interested in the history/stories of surfing. I was looking all over the place for this and I'm glad I found it. It's a great story and anyone who loves surfing on and off the board will enjoy this. The rivalry was interesting to see and the lengths people went to to chase their dreams is inspiring (if a little worrisome for a parent, heh).

Oh and for those of us who are either land locked or just can't get to the ocean...long board skating. Nothing takes the place of the wave but it's damn sure fun to get a little of that feeling back.
