Review

Great fun and ideal for reading aloud.

(Bath Chronicle)

What a lovely book for a child just starting play group.

A lovely insight into a child's world, with simple text and gentle illustrations.

(Junior)

Uses detailed illustrations, but very few words, to show just what this strange new place will be like - walking in, having your own peg, playing games both indoors and outside, painting, storytime, drinking juice together and getting ready to go home. There's even a class pet!

(Child Care)

‘Sarah Garland's children and her depiction of family life have always appealed to me for their down-to-earth depiction of everyday life, with which we can all readily identify. The detailed pictures are so lively and full of activity that they really draw the reader in and the minimal text is the ideal complement.’

(Parents in Touch)

‘Charming read. . . full of details that had me imagining mini stories about the other characters. The style of illustration is realistic, and the story is a great depiction of . . . spending a day at playschool.’

(Nayu's Reading Corner Blog)

‘These books are absolutely lovely. They should do very well for the really young person who might be about to go and do one of these things.’

3.0 out of 5 stars Preparation for school 6 Nov 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Nice little book however the illustrations were a little outdated and when I checked it was an 80's publication. However the story went down well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for little ones starting pre school. 23 Dec 2011
Format:Hardcover
We bought this at the suggestion of a friend to help introduce the idea of pre school to our two year old. He really enjoyed the story, the pictures and beautifully detailed and there is lots to talk about. The story is very nice too and we found that, although it was not exactly how our pre school is, the pictures are detailed enough for you to frame any routine around it. A really lovely book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just the thing to prepare your child for nursery 25 Aug 2010
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
To be fair, I'm a huge fan of the Sarah Garland books in the "Going to.." series with the slightly dishevelled mother, dog, pre-schooler and toddler in their less than perfect house. There is very little text, but plenty to talk about in the pictures (so the story can last for as long as you fancy). I bought it in anticipation of sending my daughter to nursery just after her second birthday and for about a month I tried to manoeuvre it to the top of the book pile so that I could explain what fun nursery would be (the pages include all sorts of typical nursery activities). I can't help thinking that it made settling in a lot easier. A year later, the book normally stays firmly on the bookshelf but once in a while it is fun to get my 3 year old daughter to tell me the story from her perspective.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for concept ideas with children 13 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Helps children to overcome the fear of playschool by seeing that it is good. Its use of concepts also makes this a good teaching aid for children
