About the Author
DEBBIE JENKINS is an entrepreneur, author and publisher and was a life-long city dweller who always longed for a place in the countryside. Her greatest excitement is in owning trees - hundreds of them!
The author's Cave House is in the mountains near Corvera, 1 km away from a small village called La Murta, with a population (including them) of 101 people. The village is tidy and peaceful and inhabited by dedicated farmers.
In June 2001 Debbie and Marcus bought a small warehouse, attached to some caves, with 6.5 acres of land. They spent 4 years trying to work out how best to make use of their land, get enough money together to rebuild and renovate the caves and to build a wooden house as an interim solution. In August 2005 they moved into their wooden house to enjoy the Murcian lifestyle - going native in Murcia - which they now enjoy with their 2 dogs, 2 cats and 5 chickens.
In 2006 Debbie and Marcus bought a second house in the Murcia region in the pretty mountain village of Moratalla.

The book was borne out of the frustration of none of the major guides covering the region, or at best only dedicating 4 or 5 pages to it. When they did mention Murcia they focused entirely on the golf complexes and housing estates. In fact, the only guides we could find that covered the Murcia region in any detail were in Spanish, interspersing flowery language with inaccurate information. So we felt it was time for someone to put this major region firmly on the map.
Murcia is a beauty, with warm and welcoming people, a strong property market, wonderful food and fantastic weather.
Our goal for you as you read this book is that you'll be able to enjoy visiting this region in all its glory - with us as your equally wide-eyed guides. If you're thinking of investing here or even making this region your new home then the sections on buying and visiting will tell you all you need to know.
