When I left England to relocate to the Costa del Sol some 4 years ago I read as many books as I could and watched every reality TV programme about life in Spain and the process of relocation. Most were very helpful but none provided all the information I wanted or needed because in most cases they dealt with Spain as a whole and not the Costa del Sol in particular. Despite this, there is a lot of general information in this book which would be equally valuable for someone going to live anywhere in Spain.
In "Going to Live on the Costa del Sol", I have attempted to provide the reader - whether considering a move or newly arrived on the coast - with all the necessary information to help them make the decisions vital for their new life:
the problems of choosing where you want to live
how taxation and the legal system will affect you
where you can have your children educated
how you will look after your health
banking, mortgages and financial matters
transport issues
a thorough appraisal of the cost of living
work opportunities
social life either as an expatriate or as someone living in a Spanish community
looking after your pets
The information is authoritative and has been thoroughly checked for accuracy by local experts.
I believe that this book goes further than any other book of this type - I have tried to include all the information which I would have liked to have access before I made my own decision - and I hope that it will be a very important source of information for anyone considering a move to southern Spain. Throughout the book I have tried to illustrate the information provided with real life situations.
Within the covers you will find much that is positive but I am not afraid to highlight potential negatives. Those negatives could produce problems for your future and need to be addressed before you take any final decision. Relocating from the UK is not all plain sailing and it would be very wrong to paint a totally idealistic picture of the process. Finding that place in the sun or following that dream needs careful planning and detailed information on all aspects of your move.
I hope that "Going to Live on the Costa del Sol" will provide this.
