This was the first book that i have ever read by the author Clare Dowling but as soon as I saw it and read the synopsis, I thought it would be an interesting read and i was not disappointed.
Going it alone tells the story of the main character Millie who is more than desperate to have a baby and it not only shows her journey but also how this desire affects and completely controls her life. Millie is an instantly likeable character with a good sense of humour who you instantly feel for.
The main other character stories we are given is Mille's sister Oona who is having marriage and sex problems, their father who has to take care of his wife who develops early on dementia.
I think the reason why this novel works well is because of the extreme things that Millie is prepared to do for a baby and the fact that it is anything but simple. She drives away her husband Andrew with her crazy charts and on schedule sex so she heads to Spain for fertility treatment. Like any decent novel, another twist gets thrown into the mix and Millie meets Simon while in Spain who she instantly connects with, the big question remains will she give up her true love for a 15% chance of finally getting pregnant.
I will not spoil the outcome for future readers but it is worth a read to find out what happens to these well written charatcers.
I myself really enjoyed this novel, i found it funny, sad and romantic all at the same time and it kept me hooked till the very last time.
I would definitely reccomend to any reader as it is simply what I would call "a lovely story" .
