** REVISED AND RE-EDITED VERSION **

Growing up on the Wrong Side of the Tracks, Victoria Vernon knows the sting of living with Less in a town of More. She also knows that living well is the best revenge, and through brains, beauty and an advantageous marriage, she not only lives well, she lives downright spectacularly.
Until the day that the FBI shows up on her doorstep and seizes everything she owns. She's left with no money, no friends and no resources, and her only option is to move back to her mother's house in the town she vowed never to see again.

Coming home is worse than she could have imagined.

Forced to navigate a past she didn’t want to confront, children she barely knows, her estranged mother and a determined FBI agent that is convinced that the path to her thieving husband is to her front door.

In the hilarious romp Going for Broke Victoria learns the hard way (the really quite humiliating and pathetic way, if you ask her) that a life filled with private jets, society galas and millions of dollars is not necessarily one worth mourning. And that sometimes stripping life down to the bare essentials is the way to find your true worth.

1.0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding me..... 9 Sep 2012
By Robert Jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I really hope that the other reviewers are friends of this author. Otherwise I suspect that it might be the first book they've ever read. Not only was the book disjointed, poorly written and hard to read, but it was also a huge lesson in what's wrong with the English departments in our schools. There were so many grammatical and spelling errors that it made my skin crawl. I do not have a perfect command of the english language, but the mistakes in this book are blatantly obvious. Just having another person read this before it was put up for public viewing would have helped. I hope. With so many resources at our fingertips I would hope that this and any other author would be able to clean up the mistakes. Just a couple examples...Chapter 21, "Victoria was surprised to see what looked like actual mothers handing out in the park with their kids." Handing, really? A quick reread would have found that. Also in Chapter 21, "or he would dive right next to her at 5 mph," I could make a list a mile long with examples like this and of grammatical errors, but that's enough.

As far as the characters go, I found Victoria to be a weak woman. She ran home to Mom the moment things got tough and then preceded to spend an inordinate amount of time on the couch. And consequently went back to that state every time something real or perceived happened. Mike could have said a hundred times she was an "amazing woman" which he might have, but that didn't make it any more real.

This was a library book and I really feel like I should be able to get my September pick back. I finished it because I don't ever like to stop reading a book in the middle, but I feel like I might just be a little less smart because of it.

1.0 out of 5 stars None 1 Oct 2012

This author is in desperate need of an editor. Half of the sentences are nonsensical comma splices. Even if the grammar wasn't atrocious, the shallow characters, trite plotline, and unintelligible main character would doom this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly Fun! 6 Sep 2012

I rarely give 5 stars (this is my first), but this is a gem!
Enjoyable writing style and light-hearted story: a twist on poor, little rich girl.
I even fell in love with the main character, initially a self-involved, shallow snob who evolves into a loving mother and a relatively self-sufficient woman.
If I had one criticism, it would be the happy-ever-after type ending with another man--one of several (including her husband) who pursues her . . . but then I'm not romantic (this book doesn't fall within the romance genre either).
