Product Description

This concert DVD sees Phil Collins take his superb new album Going Back into the live arena. Filmed in June of this year in the intimate surroundings of New York s famous Roseland Ballroom, this is a real chance to get up close and personal as Phil Collins faithfully recreates the soul and Motown classics that he loved as a teenager. His band includes three of Motown s original backing band The Funk Brothers: Bob Babbitt on bass and guitarists Eddie Willis and Ray Monette, as well as two stalwarts of Genesis live shows: Chester Thompson on drums and Darryl Stuermer on guitars. Backed by a killer 18-piece band...Collins got most everybody in the Roseland Ballroom dancing (Rolling Stone) A bloody lovely show (Time Out, New York)

Being an avid Genesis fan since as far back as 1972 I have always been fascinated by the solo careers of previous band members and have not been dissapointed by the likes of Gabriel and Hackett. This DVD is exceptionally well produced both visibly and musically. It`s no use just playing it on your blu-ray player and HD TV, you really need the whole Dolby Digital surround package with DTS HD Master Audio capability to appreciate the production quality. Although all the tracks are good the absolute standout track for me is "Papa was a Rolling Stone", as soon as that Bob Babbitt bass kicks in and your Sub Woofer vibrates through the floor the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, the Brad Cole arrangement is brilliant. I think this Blu-Ray DVD will appeal to all Phil fans of all ages especially the HI-FI buffs among you!!

This is the DVD of an amazing concert filmed in New York in June 2010. Phil is singing a variety of Motown and soul classics (as found on his 'Going Back' album), and he performs them brilliantly!! The DVD really captures the spirit of the concert and Phil's obvious enjoyment in presenting these songs to his fans. The concert was filmed at the Roseland Ballroom, a very small venue where he's obviously relaxed and happy. Phil has an 18 piece band with him, including the surviving members of the Funk Brothers(!!), Brad Cole, Daryl Sturmer and the excellent Chester Thompson! The DVD is in HD, with crystal-clear sound, making it as close as one can get to actually being there!! Phil performs some songs he's recorded before like 'Can't Hurry Love', 'Tears of a Clown' and 'My Girl', but also includes classics such as 'In My Lonley Room', 'Heatwave', 'Uptight' and 'Nowhere to Run'. There is a real mix of songs - something for everyone!

I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough. It's truly AWESOME!! Phil perfoms with huge enthusiam and flare, supported by an amazing band and the audience clearly had a great night. This is a must for, not only the fans of Mr. Collins, but also anyone who enjoys good music and a great live experience!

I've previously seen some video footage of Mr Collins doing his own material and was impressed by the professionalism he shows. When you see a Phil Collins Show he gives you just that - a Show! This dvd is in the same mold but on a relativley small stage in a smallish venue where he is close to his audience. He has a lot of people on stage wth him- musicians, backing singers and dancers; musically there are the usual compliment of guitars and basses backed up by keyboards and percussion, along with a brass section. The extensive lineup fits in well with the nature of his material which is Motown-esque in essence. All well and good if you like that. Technically the dvd has been well recorded and produced to give a very clear picture and excellent sound which I played through my hi fi, with pictures on my 37 inch LED tv.
