Biography

Whether you think The Gourds non-sequitur loving n'ere-do-wells or post-modern lyrical geniuses, their mandala-like musical vignettes and gulps of down-home authenticity can not be denied. Musical lifers and road dogs to the end, Kevin 'Shinyribs' Russell, Jimmy Smith, Max Johnston, Keith Langford and Claude Bernard remain at once roots music's envelope pushers and its torch ... 4.0 out of 5 stars Great all through, but one song is a must have 20 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
So you know a group is going to be special when the first song you hear is a folky guitar driven Bowie cover, and then the next song is an unbelievably cool guitar version of Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice." The original's are just as good, with a wicked full force mandolin, and a distinctive feel that just sounds good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why it's not in stock. 7 Sep 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This album is hard to find b/c it's good, and b/c the record company, Watermelon records I think, went bust, I think. The Gourds new record company is Sugar Hill Records. Also signed Sam Bush and other bluegrass favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Gin and Juice" cover is great at parties 28 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Answers the question: What would happen if Snoop Doggy Dogg were a country fan? The results are danceable, laughable, and undeniably entertaining. Other notable tracks include a cover of Ziggy Stardust and a rendition of Trouble, a traditional song.
5.0 out of 5 stars Gin and Juice 24 Jun 1999

I love this cover, it's great. It's as "GOURD" as it gets, Snoop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gin and Juice, bluegrass style 17 Jun 2001
By C. Carrier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
If you can get your hands on it, it is worth every penny if only to hear their version of Gin and Juice (originally Snoop Doggy Dog). Around the net, popular wisdom is that the cover is by Phish or Ween, but THIS is it so find this album and buy it!!!
