Van Gogh Nightscapes (Illustrated) (Affordable Portable Art) [Kindle Edition]
Vincent Van Gogh's short art career provided the world with unparalleled paintings from a troubled genius. It was to be an age of post-Impressionistic color, form and wonderment that the art world discovered only after the master's death. Bouts of anxiety, mental illness and epilepsy may have tormented him and brought about his suicide at the age of 37. But they may also have been catalysts for an emotionality and vibrance in his art that reveals a turbulent search for grace. "Starry Night," for instance, is one of Van Gogh's best-known masterpieces, perhaps for the unique texture through which we view the heavens.
This volume displays Van Gogh nightscapes in a digitally restored state: their eye-popping brilliance and vitality are just as on the day Vincent Van Gogh finished them. Unless otherwise noted, they were originally oil paintings on canvas.
Technical Note: All but one of these images are in color -- they render beautifully in optimized gray-scale tones for black-and-white e-book readers, but exhibit even more stunningly in full color with color readers and inside Kindle apps for color-enabled computers and portable or hand-held devices.
Nightscapes include the following:
SUNSET: - Village Sunset, 1884 - Landscape at Dusk, 1885 - Landscape at Sundown, 1885 - Thatched Hut at Dusk, 1885 - Autumn Landscape at Twilight, 1885 - Wheat Field and Factories at Sundown, 1888 - Sower at Sunset I, 1888 - Willow Trees at Sunset, 1888 - Sower at Sunset II, 1888 - Sower at Sunset III, 1888 - The Evening Hour I (after Millet), 1889 - Pine Tree & Female Figure at Sunset, 1889 - The Evening Hour II (after Millet), 1889 - Landscape with Castle of Auvers at Sunset, 1890
MOONRISE AND MOONLIGHT - Landscape and Factories in the Moonlight, 1887 - Evening Landscape with Moonrise, 1889 - Walk in the Moonlight, 1890
STARRY NIGHT - The Poet (Eugène Boch) in Starry Night, 1888 - Evening Over Terrace Café At Place du Forum, Arles, 1888 - Starry Night Over the Rhone, 1888 - Starry Night, 1889 - Starry Night, (Pen and Ink), 1889 - Cypress Path under Starry Skies, 1890 >
SUNRISE - Enclosed Field at Sunrise, 1889
Viewing Tip: Since most of these nightscapes are in a native "landscape" mode (width greater than height), turn your portable or handheld device lengthwise as necessary to show the fullest possible detail. If more than one landscape image is showing on the screen, adjust the viewing options to exhibit a single image. Reverse the orientation back to "portrait" mode for images taller than they are wide — as well as for the title page and introductory materials.

1.0 out of 5 starsdisappointing presentation15 Dec. 2011
By Leila - Published on Amazon.com
I like that I can look at these beautiful pictures on my Kindle Fire. I can see images of these excellent pictures without much effort. (This is the only positive.) However, the images do not fill the screen and I cannot zoom in and then pan on the portions I want to study. The images look like they were scanned from an art book with the device only showing you the bottom half of each page. I am sure this is not the case, but the effect is that the presentation looks thrown together. Amusing really, that an ebook of great art has such poor execution. I want a coffee table quality art book- images not text (I can read about the painting some other time somewhere else)- on my Kindle. My search continues...

Thought pictures of the artwork would be close to the size of the. Kindle screen...WRONG. Try about one-third...no way to truly appreciate the art...

Imagine, if you will, turning on your computer after you ordered this Affordable Portable Art collection from Amazon. It is stunning. A Perfect Collection of Vincent Van Gogh's nightscapes. I spent the rest of the night studying each painting while playing "Vincent" on my CD player. Don McLean's "Starry, Starry Night" is simply a masterpiece that adds to the Van Gogh experience. I can't imagine anyone not loving this collection. All of the Affordable Portable Art collections are gems, but I'd particularly recommend this one.
