1986 was the year that saw Liverpool beat Merseyside rivals Everton 3-1 at Wembley to win the FA Cup and complete their first league and cup double, Spitting Image hit the No. 1 spot in the UK pop charts with the irredeemable 'Chicken Song', and Robert De Niro starred in a film called 'The Mission'. But the biggest cultural event of the year was when Wayne Hussey, Craig Adams, ... Read more in Amazon's The Mission (UK) Store

Firstly I was there, contary to the previous reviewer, it was not Wayne on his own, he was joined in part by Simon Hinkler. The songs are well performed and represents a good reflection of a good band, which sadly lost its way. I've followed the Mission from before they were conceived, in the halycion Sisters era, before the departure of Wayne, Craig and Gary. From my experience of them they've been good and indifferent, the band were never the same after the departure of Simon Hinkler.

They did more than is on this CD on the night, well they'd have been short evenings if they just did the one album, it's a shame that some of the other tracks didn't end up on the CD, but that's a minor grumble. There's a lot of live Mission work out there, did these need to be produced, probably not, but it provides a nice keepsake to those that went to say farewell and were pleasantly surprised by a good evening.

It's been a week of funerals for long standing fixtures in the musical climate I grew up. No amount of passionate and furious playing can hide the fact that half of the songs on "The First Chapter" and "God's Own Medicine" are not undisputed classics of the genre. This set is a brilliant performed and recorded recreation of The Mission first studio record, albeit performed by a completely different line up.If you liked it then, you'll like it now.

The Mission - despite being a great rock band throughout their career and producing a fine body of work (albeit one that stuck determined to a relatively limited palette) - painted themselves into a corner. This set is an authentic Mission experience but the band performing these songs had nothing to do with the band who wrote this material, apart from sharing a singer. As a package, it's a fine production : exhaustive, fine value for money, containing quality performance worthy of permanence and a suitable epitah to their career.
