5.0 out of 5 stars Superbly Crafted Story 28 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I must admit, as a Bible preacher and teacher, I approached this 1st book in the series with some trepidation. My concerns were completely unfounded and the handling of the story of Hezekiah's early years under the reign of his father Ahaz is extremely well done.

The warnings of THE Book about apostasy and syncretism are faithfully built into and exciting and descriptive narrative. It is the first novel I have read in a sitting for a number of years. Lynn Austin is to be congratulated!

I bought this book on recommendation and was certainly not disappointed; buying the rest of the series was a foregone conclusion! Lynn Austin did her homework meticulously and wove the story so well that I defy readers to abandon this book part-way through. Some horrifying, graphic scenes of child-sacrifice to the pagan god, Baal. (You won't be able to gloss through scriptural references to him without shuddering after this.) This period in Biblical history has now come alive for me. Thank you, Lynn Austin. If you enjoy Francine Rivers, you will enjoy this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathes life into the life of Hezekiah 30 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Like a lot of Christians I have a slight reservation when reading books that are based in Biblical times, as they can often come away from what the Bible actually says. With this book however the Author is very honest from the beginning giving the scriptures where they base their storyline and characters upon.

The story itself, I found really enjoyable yet at the same time bringing a realisation of what was truly happening in those times, the severe sacrifices of children, the arrogance and defiance of kings and their fear of other nations. I found it hard to put the book down and the way the author painted the picture for Hezekiah's life from a small child to a man was enthralling. It makes you realise what this man could possible have went through to become a King of a disoriented and oppressed nation.

As a Christian I have found this book inspiring and has given me a desire to study the scriptures on this era of the kings of Judah and Israel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Try King James Version.
OKish I guess, sort of, generates some excitement but sadly felt no real interest in the characters. Not going to comment further on someone's work. Good luck with it.
