Product Description

GODS HOTEL were formed in LA by ex (at the time) QUIREBOYS vocalist SPIKE. They made this one album in 2000 and it s been out of print for some time. Gods Hotel was nothing like The Quireboys, being much heavier and darker in sound. Spike re joined The Quierboys and is currently touring and recording.

I have been a fan of Spike and the Quireboys for 30 years this year, but had somehow managed to miss out on buying this cd until recently. You can imagine my surprise when I put this cd on, ready for some 'Good old fashioned Rock 'n' Roll' that Spike does so well, but no, this was not like anything that The Quireboys had done. It was something darker, more grunge like, there are distortions used on Spike's perfectly rasping voice, the lyrics are not about the finer things that life can bring, they too tell tales of the inkiness of a life led in starless solitude.
I must admit I had to imagine that it wasn't the fun loving Spike I remember singing these songs, but one that had seen his dream brought down by a changing music scene of the early 1990's. These songs are a reminder of a darker period in Spike's musical journey, but I am glad to hear he is still the fun loving roguish balladeer that he always was. Spike you are a lyricist, poet and legend.

I love the Quireboy but this is different, much harder rock music but with Spikes very distinctive voice.

One of my fave CD's.

Well-this is disappointing. I was hoping that the least we would get would be an album with Spike's vocals to the fore-even if the tone of the piece is darker than the Quireboys or his excellent solo album.

What we get is a mishmash of grunge/pseudo emo riffs with the vocals for the most part subsumed beneath the music(word used in loosest context).

This is simply not good. If you are a fan of Spike-one of the most unique and under-rated vocalists in rock- steer clear of this mess.
