4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and useful light 30 Jun 2012
Size Name:Flash Speedlite|Amazon Verified Purchase
A good product for the cost. Of course, it's not ETTL, nor does it possess high speed sync or 2nd curtain flash, but it gives a relatively good light for indoors use (and possibly on outdoors, but did not try yet). It is my second flash (I had the 430EX-II) and it serves very well that purpose as a supporting unit to complement my amateur strobist experiments. In manual mode you can use it attached to the body, but this may require trials before obtaining the right illumination. Not for non-experienced users who can't afford missing a shot at first attempt. But in the wireless slave modes (S1 and S2, especially the latter) the unit is very useful and operative. It answers very well (S2) to master's commands (even the 7D pop-up, nice!) and you can do interesting "lightening" experiments. Of course, you still need to adjust manually the intensity, but that is an occasion to try new things; after all, photography is also that! Shows very good times of recycle, and it works very well with rechargeable batteries. The TT560 variant is a bit more powerful, but has the very same functionalities, so advantages are arguable for the price increase. Of the same range of prices and functionalities one can also consider the YN460-II, but it's slightly more expensive.
The manufacturing materials are very good, and the device is pretty well sized (even slightly bigger that the 430EX). One small incident occurred when I pulled out the integrated white reflector (yes, it has one) and pushed it back inside and then it took some efforts to pull it out again... beware on that operation: when pushing back that white reflector, keep it attached to the light diffuser plate so they both move together in and out. It's a minor detail, but you can avoid some nuisances with this care. If I had money, I would by multiple ETTL flashes, but I realised that perhaps one ETTL flash is enough (preferably one with master capabilities) and then several "manual" flashes as this one can do a fine job for more complex lighting works. If this is your set up, and you are starting your amateur strbist "carreer", I definitely recommend this flash in one or more units.

Excellent flash particularly being able to dial power in simple to use. Bought for Nikon d5100 and works like a charm. I would recommend for flash users who dont want to pay Nikon Prices.

Good build quality and recycle time is more than acceptable

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money 22 July 2012

Size Name:Flash Speedlite|Amazon Verified Purchase
To encourage my 16 year-old daughter to have more control over the built in flash on her Canon 1100D camera, I was looking to buy an external flash but was surprised when I checked the prices. They were typically £200/£300 and definitely too much to spend on 'trying new methods'.
But this item is so good, I was astonished as to how they can produce and sell such a great light for so few £££s! Simply excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speed lite
Absolutely brilliant for the money. Obviously not up to the TTL standards of Nikon or Canon flash guns, but as a basic, efficient flash at a sensible price, this one beats the lot!
