Product Description

For too long religion has enjoyed the benefit of the doubt, taking all the benefit and allowing none of the doubt. With the rise of Islam and political correctness, the threat it now poses to our basic freedoms is beyond a joke. Award-winning comedian Pat Condell gets serious and gives religion the kicking it deserves in his popular and controversial video monologues, sixty of which are collected here for the first time, including Welcome to Saudi Britain, Free Speech Is Sacred and Wake Up, America.

5.0 out of 5 stars God Bless you Pat! 11 Oct 2010
By Laura
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Well, what can i say? Pat Condell is an absolute legend and an inspiration to so many of us. If you have seen and enjoy his youtube videos (and if you haven't, where have you been? you need them in your life!!), this book is a must - get it on your Christmas list!! I really engaged with everything Pat said and completely immersed myself in this fantastic book. I found it almost impossible to put down but i also loved that each chapter was quite short and didn't necessarily follow an order so it's a really easy book to dip in and out of. It doesn't matter if you're an Athiest or not, if you're religious i would still recommend this book because it's incredibly witty and refreshing and cannot fail to make you re-evaluate or question your own feelings & beliefs which i think is important for us all to do from time to time. I honestly cannot recommend this book highly enough. Pat Condell is a genius, he has the balls, wit and intelligence to vocalise what so many have always wanted to say, but never had the guts to utter. Peace :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Offensive and funny, but truthful. 2 May 2010
Format:Paperback
Steer clear of this if you are a Christian, Jew or Muslim. Condell has no time for you if you think your religious views have any validity in today's society. Freedom of religious speech, a gay Jesus, America's obsession with christianity - it's all covered here in glorious, outspoken detail. Condell says what we atheists are all thinking but are perhaps too afraid to say publicly.
Buy it, read it, laugh, but above all, think about what he is saying. Beneath the humour is a real concern about the way we are headed.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, the transcripts. 23 April 2010
Format:Paperback
Been waiting for this for some time and I bought it as soon as I saw it on Pat's site. It's the transcripts of 60 of Pat's excellent YouTube videos. It gives one the opportunity to examine Pat's comments in detail without all that tedious mucking about with a video.
It's brilliant stuff and I can't wait for the next one. If you don't know what it's all about check out Pat's YouTube channel and remember : NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO NOT BE OFFENDED.
If you don't like what Pat says, well, tough. My advice is to grow up.

I have tremendous respect for Mr. Condell. One of the few people who openly says what many deem as taboo. While - as an orthodox Christian I do not share all of Mr. Condell's views, but many things (especially regarding islam) are so true and simply need to be said, even if you make some enemies.
Pat Condell is a very talented writer - although this is a rather serious topic there is much humor in it and it doesn't seem out of place. Few people can do that.
Another aspect is, he doesn't need to use hateful or aggressive language to get across what he has to say.

I can only say, GODLESS AND FREE is a must read, even if you might not agree on all he has to say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 7 Sep 2010
By SP Owen
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Pat Condell simply says what many of us think but are either too afraid to say it, or, as in my case, can't articulate our thoughts as well or as humourously as he does. Read it back to front or dip in for a casual read, it's an easy book to get on with. It's a good read and very funny :D If you enjoy the You Tube videos, you'll love the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sermon for our time. 31 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
In among the sneezing pandas, skateboarding parrots and Rebecca Black parodies on Youtube, you'll find the talking heads.
From rambling monotone monologues to the foaming rabid rant, there's something for almost no-one.

Occasionally, but too rarely, you'll come across the bright, lucid commentary of someone who has not just passion, but reason, education, sense and sensibility.
That's the sound of Pat Condell delivering little surprise 6-minute sermons, offered randomly but always just at the right time.

His experience on the standup circuit, and as a writer, ensures quick-witted-quip and finely honed prose is never more than a sentence or two away.

His oratory is so sharp, his delivery so flawless and meticulous and tuned for youtube, I really did wonder whether it would translate well from screen to page.

Well, it does. I've not read it front to back like a book - I just flick it open for un-divine inspiration and always receive wisdom.

Incidentally, the physical production on my copy from Amazon is very good - I've only seen one self-published book before and the paper was rough, the print poor and the cover stapled.
Fortunately, the 266 pages here are on good paper, in clear type, and well bound. And I've yet to find a typo or grammatical error. Very readable.

And on those crisp pages, you'll find acerbic swipes at the worst parts of Christianity, Judaism, Catholicism, Islam and even Scientology.
You'll also find wry, witty observations, and something to make you think. He wonders in 'Ban the Burka', "why it is that the western feminist voice, usually so assertive and confident, is so muted when it comes to women in Islam".

Of course, this book will be largely preaching to the converted.

Thoughtful, if irreverent take on religion and religions. The essays follow 'stream of consciousness' style, which echo the internet videos from which they were transcribed.
