Goddess Interrupted (The Goddess Chronicles) [Paperback]

Goddess Interrupted is a beautifully written book full of twists that will keep you hooked until the end. You also meet some new characters who you will love! The book picks up from where The Goddess Test left off. Kate has just come back from her holiday in Greece with her best friend, James. She is desperate to see Henry, desperate for him to hold her, to touch her, to kiss her. But nothing is going the way she wants it to. Henry has become distant and detached. And to make the whole situation worse Henry is kidnapped and a monster is let loose. Hunting Underworld until he finds the way out. Kate must rescue Henry, but to find him, she must find...Persephone! Dum, dum, dum!

I absolutely loved the plot for this book! It was daring, dangerous, interesting, action-packed and full of complicated relationships. You learn a lot about the main characters; how they feel about each other, their past, their deeper emotions, etc. When I read the blurb for this book I was immediately excited. Who wouldn't be? We finally get to meet Henry's ex-lover Persephone! My first thoughts on Persephone weren't very nice. She was just plain rude. I didn't understand how Henry could love such a horrible girl, but when you see her through Kate's eyes, of course Persephone is going to look like a witch.

Kate's main worry in this book, is that she could never live up to Persephone. She feels like a replacement, like she was born to succeed at what her sister failed. She also felt that Henry could never love her because he was still hung up on Persephone. Kate is going through a rough time in her marriage, eventhough she's only been married for seven months! I could feel Kate's pain very deeply as she fumbles through each day, waiting. Just waiting until Henry is finally ready to open his heart to someone other than her sister.

I do feel that Aimee Carter has done an awesome job on this book. It's much more detailed and exciting than the last book. The only negative point I can pick out is the ending. Major cliff-hanger?! What's going on there?! I don't want to give anything away, but I can definitely say that it is unexpected! I'm possitive that lots of you will be banging your head against the wall!

Overall, Goddess Interrupted is an incredible book that fans of greek mythology will love, just make sure that you've read The Goddess Test before you read this one! This book will leave you craving for more and desperate to get your hands on the third (and final) book!

I enjoyed The Goddess Test, despite a few niggles with the story-line and characters. As a story the idea had many merits and the writing was top class, so I moved straight onto Goddess Interrupted ready for some more of those crazy Greeks.

Goddess Interrupted is darker and has a lot more action than The Goddess Test. There is more world building, more of the characters personalities are
revealed, and there are some seriously freaky things going down in Goddess-town.

But......for most of the book, I wanted to smack Kate upside the head. Hard. It seemed like her every waking moment was lamenting how unloved she was, how Henry didn't pay her enough attention, how unsure she was of her place in the Underworld. And while I could understand that being married at 18, and suddenly finding yourself living in an Underworld under attack is going to cause a few cracks in your sunny persona, it was all a little bit too much for me. Henry just pissed me off for the most part - why Kate was so determined that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Henry just completely flew over my head, and even when I got to the end of the book I still didn't get it.

OK, rant over. I have to say again that Ms. Carter is a very talented writer - the story flows exceptionally well and the dialogue isn't in the least bit cheesy or stilted. I really enjoyed the tension between Persephone and Kate and Ava, and the friendship between James and Kate added some normality to the story.

In short, if you loved The Goddess Test, I think you will like Goddess Interrupted. But for me, the main characters being a whiny love-struck girl and a gruff, un-loveable Greek god just turned me completely off. I'll have to seriously think about whether I'll devote the time to finish reading the trilogy - not even a cliffhanger had me hungering for the next book.

Last year Aimee Carter left me astounded when I read her debut novel The Goddess Test and now Goddess Interrupted is here and she has done it yet again. Goddess Interrupted is a captivating, intriguing and magical read - one that I managed to devour in 24 hours and I'm dying for more.

Kate Winters has spent the last six months on summer vacation, away from Henry as per their arrangement. But now it's time to go back and be crowned as Queen of the Underworld and be forever tied to Henry. There is nothing more in the world that Kate wants than to be with Henry but when Henry starts acting secretive and distant with her, she starts questioning everything she was once lead to believe. Soon she finds out that Cronus - The King of the Titans, is trying to escape his prison and he is hell bent on killing the one's Kate cares about most. When Henry is kidnapped by Cronus, it's down to Kate to try and rescue him but she needs help from the one person she never wanted to meet.....Persephone's.....Henry's ex wife. Can Kate and Henry overcome the obstacles of their relationship and can Kate keep all her loved ones safe?

Goddess Interrupted is absolutely beautiful read and I loved every minute of it. I started reading it and I honestly couldn't put it down but I have to admit, I was a little disappointed at the start of it. After the ending in The Goddess Test, I was expecting Kate and Henry's relationship to be completely different because they are in love with each other now. So admittedly, the first few chapters threw me because everything wasn't all hearts and flowers between them but, what I got was something so much more. It was so raw, emotional and real - that it was so heartbreakingly good and it bought me to tears a few times. Kate and Henry's relationship is really put through the tests during this book and I felt for both of their situations but I'm just glad they became a stronger couple for it. Their moments together at the end of the book really were a joy to read, I loved every minute of it and I think Aimee Carter did a fantastic job creating a couple that do have faults but are perfect for each other in every way.

This time around we get to know our favourite Gods all the more and I thought they all bought a level of mystery with them. Each and every one of them has two personalities; their human side and their Immortal side, and trying to unravel them was really fascinating. I especially loved getting to know Ava better and of course, Henry was the best to get to know more.

What I enjoyed about this book so much was how unpredictable it is. I honestly didn't know what was going to come next and let me say, I am so shocked with the results....but in such a good way that I need the final book now. Honestly, the ending of the book is going to blow you're mind and leave you speechless - yeah it's that good!

Overall, Goddess Interrupted is just as good as The Goddess Test if not, even better! And I cannot wait to see what is next installed for us.
